Claiming tax back for an AVC

    Hi guys,

I was made redundant recently. I decided to make a 10k AVC to my pension 2 weeks ago. I'm waiting on the certificate to be issued.

My question is; what's the procedure for claiming the tax back for it? Do I claim it against 2024s income return, or is it against this years?

If I claim it against 2025, is it money returned to me, or is it just an increase in my tax credits?

    Thanks in advance

Will you pay enough tax in 2025 to get the tax relief?

Maybe better to put it against 2024 income tax?

I've a new job starting in July, so I will have enough tax paid, plus it's a joint assessment with my wife

Maybe I phrased it poorly, am I allowed claim it against 2024, even though the contribution was made in May 2025?

    Yes.

Assuming you have not already used up the max amount of pension tax relief for 2024.
