Cost of GPs (visits, prescription renewals)

Hi, just wanted a confirmation: is it normal in Ireland to pay 70€ for a (cursory, 5min) GP visit, and 20€ for a prescription renewal via phone.
Are there any pricing standards for GPs or they can charge whatever they want?

Context: non-Irish coming from a European country where these things are free/paid for by taxes (or mostly), living in South Dublin (possibly not the cheapest side of Ireland, I know).

Normal, I don't know but it's what I have to pay too. to be fair it's €70 if you sit in the Doctor's office for 20 mins or 2 mins.

Luckily get 50% back on Health Insurance so, I consider the fee €35.

yes it is standard enough price.

I suppose if it’s a major issue you could redo your leaving certificate, get enough points to study general practice in medical school and then you can charge people what you want.

that’s what my doctor told me when I suggested she was charging too much.

It's about right OP, shocking price really. I spent 350 euro this week for a consultant to talk at me for 5 minutes 🙄

With, no doubt, a sincere offer from the Consultant that if you needed to see them again you simply needed to ring the receptionist to make another appointment. And that appointment might only be 250 euro this time for another 5 minutes!

Yeah €70 in midlands too €20 extra if you getting bloods done with the nurse, €25 for sick cert. If you've no health insurance you can submit Dr's cost and get 20% back in tax returns. Our taxes don't give you anything in Ireland only a free dentist check up yearly and a discount of the hygienist yearly too.

And not everyone qualifies for the dental assistance either (I don't) - all depends on the type of prsi paid.

GP consultation is €65….Physio is €50

The physio did my bloods a few times as he’s a qualified phlebotomist too. He’s a great dude, and he has a top reputation for his physio work. People who I know seeing him with actual chronic ailments such as arthritis rave about him.

There is a dedicated physiotherapy practice not a million miles away charging €75 for a standard consultation which they state on their website lasts 30 minutes..,,
