Hi - have recently been refused Jobseekers Allowance after a means test. In the letter from social welfare my assessable means were calculated which put me over the limit . My understanding of the formula was that: first 20,000 is disregarded; from 20,000 to 30,000 is assessed at 1 euro per 1,000; 30,000 to 40,000 is assessed at 2 euro per 1,000; then anything over 40,000 is assessed at 4 euro per 1,000.

My question is: when I get to 40,000 and over the social welfare have calculated the full amount left after 30,000 to 40,000, whereas I thought it was anything over 40,000 and beyond. Am I wrong?
