Was looking at a motor yesterday, seemed to fit the bill. Was a uk import about 10 yrs ago. All looking good until I did a history check which said it was write off in the UK EOL, not road worthy and should not be purchased for use on public roads. Doesn't say whether cat a or cat b write off. Suffice to say it was enough to put me off.

But According to some of the UK sites I was looking at, it's illegal to sell these on and they must be scrapped. How did it end up over here, do we not have a screening process?

They can be bought and exported. We are a totally different jurisdiction to the UK. Cat A & Cat B cars don’t come with logbooks, but 10 years ago you didn’t need a logbook to register the car here.
