As usual and over 4miles with a full field I'd be going for value, in excess of 10-1. Love to see Hewick do it 10-1. Will be having an ew on horantzau dairy 66-1, malina girl 80-1

Is there only 1 Grand National ?

At a guess I'd say this is about next Saturdays Aintree grand national, which one did you have in mind?

E/W single bets each on Kandoo Kid and Fantastic Lady

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭howareyakid

    Day 1

    13:45: Impaire Et Passe 7/4

    14:20: Puturhandstogether 11/8

    14:55: Spillane’s Tower 11/4

    15:30: Constitution Hill 1/1

    16:05: Famous Clermont 7/1

    16:40: Rath Gaul Hill 8/1

    17:15: Seo Linn 9/4

13:45: Always drawn to the horses who sidestep Cheltenham for these races, and IMPAIRE ET PASSE is an Aintree Festival winner, winning the Aintree Hurdle here last year. Not done a lot wrong over fences so far, I think he looks very strong here.

14:20: There seems to be a lot of confidence behind PUTURHANDSTOGETHER, who won the Boodles very impressively at Cheltenham last time out. It’s hard to look past him here stepping up in grade.

14:55: The form line from the John Durkin between Fact to File and GDC reads very impressively, and after slightly disappointing in the King Geroge at Christmas, this could be a perfect opportunity for SPILLANE’S TOWER. The old reliable Ahoy Senor has a great Aintree record and is discounted at one’s peril. Can see him producing another bold bid as well.

15:30: For me it’s all about CONSTITUTION HILL here. In all likelihood would have won the Champion if managed to avoid unlucky fall where he reached at a hurdle. Lossiemouth was impressive in the mares but not enough for me to think she can match Henderson’s horse here.

16:05: I like horses with proven ability for this race, and FAMOUS CLERMONT won it two years ago and has run well in the Cheltenham equivalent as well. After having a nice warm up last time out, he should be primed for this. At ten, he should retain a lot of his ability so hopefully he can produce another big run.

16:40: Progressive chaser for Nigel Twiston-Davies, RATH GAUL HILL could have further improvement to come here. Always very competitive and My Mate Mozzie sets a high standard at the top of the market.

17:15: Always a tricky race, but SEO LINN’s form reads very well, particularly fairly convincing bumper win at Cheltenham in November, so I feel she sets a good standard.

Constitution Hill jumping is a nightmare again. Whether it's the jockey i don't know but miles off the fence when jumping.

Ruby Walsh pointed out beforehand that his jumping was suspect.

Disappointing as it looked like he was cruising

Sans Bruit very impressive again there. Backed him last year - should have stuck with him!

Two winners out of six runners is a good return. Must have come out evens for the day.

    Day 2

    13:45: Dancing City 3/1

    14:20: Be Aware 15/2

    14:55: Romeo Coolio 6/4

    16:05: Eldorado Allen 20/1 e/w

    16:40: Familiar Dreams 6/1

    17:15: Celtic Dino 4/1

13:45: Fought on all fronts in novice hurdles last year, including winning the 3m race here, DANCING CITY was disappointing last time out at Cheltenham. However, there is possibly an excuse to put a line through that run and I feel this is a horse that still has massive potential.

14:20: We have seen in recent years the Skeltons’ astute placing of horses in big competitive handicaps, and BE AWARE has been knocking on the door. One gets the feeling he will go close again here.

14:55: I think the form from the Supreme can hold up in this race, and I feel ROMEO COOLIO is a worthy favourite to uphold form against a few rivals he renews acquaintance here from Cheltenham.

16:05: A grade 2 winning chaser at his peak, ELDORADO ALLEN was a fairly classy operator. Now 11, he has shown ability over the these fences last year in the Grand National. I feel you need a horse to be prominent in this race, so if he takes well to the fences again, hopefully he may have an each way chance if it sparks some of his old ability in an always very competitive handicap.

16:40: I was a big fan of this mare in bumpers last season, and she has found her feet over hurdles last twice since switching to Gordon Elliott, so I feel FAMILIAR DREAMS can have a say here.

17:15: With some decent form in graded novice races, there is a suspicion CELTIC DINO could have a class edge here. Return to better found should suit, so I feel he is another strong favourite.

    Day 3

Definitely not my day yesterday, but Aintree only comes around once a year so I will try again for Day 3!

    13:20: Park Of Kings 10/1 e/w

    14:30: Peaky Boy 7/1

    15:05: Kitzbuhel 10/3

    16:00: I Am Maximus 6/1

    17:00: L’Eau du Sud 15/8

13:20: PARK OF KINGS has had some decent form in big-field handicaps, finishing 5th in the Martin Pipe last time out at Cheltenham, and could still have some improvement to come. The drying ground is a positive and if responding well to the step up he can be in the mix hopefully.

14:30: You have to excuse his last run, but PEAKY BOY has shown some promise in his chasing career to date. His close third behind Haiti Couleurs at Cheltenham in December was eye-catching, I felt, and he possibly has the potential to improve.

15:05: By a process of elimination, I am going to side with the potential of Willie Mullins’ newcomer KITZBUHEL. From these connections, when a horse is thrown into a race such as this, it has to be respected.

16:00: I haven’t had a very detailed look at the Grand National field, but with the way the race has gone in recent years, it’s hard to see a lot of the market leaders not in contention. I AM MAXIMUS won it by a street last year so if getting a smooth passage around again this year I can’t see the hike in weights being enough to stop him from being able to win it again.

17:00: While he finished a length or so behind Only By The Night at Cheltenham, L’EAU DU SUD is taken to reverse the form here for the Skeltons who are having a good week.

Apart from wanting to see Shark Hanlon do well after all the rubbish he had to go through I'm very much drawn to Hewick today. He won a King George albeit with luck but also by staying out of trouble and finishing well. Conditions are perfect for him and he has loads of stamina, 6 places and I think he's great value at 10-1.

    I went for Kandoo Kid

Big race, big field, so pick the grey one as he'll be easy to spot!

Grangeclare West 40-1 ew 6 places Has ran in great company last few races. EW claims

Stumptown 10-1 ew 6 places Cross-country chasing is it's thing, has to be in there with a chance

Stay Away Fay 66-1 ew 6 places No form, but a class horse that has lost it's way of late, it's latest run was a hint of an improvement, Paul Nicholls hasn't put a runner in Grand National since 2021, so he's picky and obviously believes it has a chance, he'd not have it there if he didn't believe

Nick Rockett 20-1 ew 6 places Probably one of the best in form horses in race. Very consistent over 3m, 2 wins 2 places last 4.

Beauport 22-1 ew 6 places . IN good form, a proven stayer .

Twig 50-1 . My pick on it's name , the old fashion way of picking a G.N horse

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I did well last year but jayzuz it’s blindfold and pin stuff this year - I’ve a feeling some of the favourites will come through (as opposed to last year when very few of the recommended in the newspapers actually made it in the top 6) . Picked a few outsiders in the hope of getting some decent placings and maybe my money back - either way I’ll still be up on last years wins but I’d like to get a few bob too -

Never seen Mullins crack like that post-race.

    Some emotion

    1, 2. 3 for W P Mullins

PS: Toby is in the money

That was a special Grand National. Nick Rockett wins at 33-1. It means a lot to a lot of people. Willie Mullins getting very emotional in his interview, too emotional to carry on. Patrick Mullins being carried in by the winning owner, Stewart Andrew. It was the owners wife, Sadie, before she died(just a few months ago) who recommended going to Willie to train the horse. Willie Mullins had a 1,2,3 and trained 5 of the first 7 across the line.
