As much as I'm not a fan of theirs OP, they did warn you about the €50 beforehand and it is there in the T's & C's.

“Cancellation Fee” shall mean a fee of €50 charged by BNM RECYCLING to the Customer who cancels the Services prior to the expiry of the Term

The only issue I see is them not including it in your final bill and just collecting it via the final DD which would have been far less hassle for all involved, but that's just poor customer service.

And despite what some people here seem to think, I don't think it's acceptable for them to block your driveway forcing you to park and walk on the public road to move them. Presumably you're on a country road rather than in an estate, it becomes a safety issue walking around a public road with a 60/80kph limit to move bins on a dark winters night/morning.

Personally though I would have saved myself the €50 and sucked it up for 4 months and then moved.

A bin company can't do anything to your credit rating.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

I'd pay it just purely to ensure if the other company started charging exorbitant prices, or collapsed, I could return to them.

I drove a bin lorry in AES/BnM for 13 years and yes it does take a bit longer to put every bin back to where it was collected from. The lads have a knack to being able to roll them to the kerb and get on the step at the same time so those 5-10 seconds for every single bin add up when you are emptying 500-800+ bins in a day.

Be interesting to see how it goes with KWD buyout, new company name will be KAES

Do you seriously think that the binmen are going to be told to be careful where they place deravarras bins who lives in XX street etc and even if they are told they are not going to remember special instructions for a certain house.!! Their job is to drive around collecting bins as quick as possible and not causing obstruction on roads, not positioning bins back carefully. The best solution for you is probably to leave your bins at another neighbours house or end of the road etc and your wife will be able to drive in - if there's an issue surely your neighbours would help

Your request to the bin company is unreasonable. In fact I bet you gave that office a good laugh even asking it.

I must have gotten the nicest binmen ever so, because I had mentioned this to the guy who brought the bins to me, and in the 6 weeks they've been collecting, never placed any of the bins in a position to block the driveway. If it keeps like this, they'll be getting a nice envelope at Christmas.

Believe it or not it does happen. The call centre really went downhill since covid and never seemed to get better before I left
