BNM - very nice letter post cancellation

I had been with AES and BNM recycling for a number of years.
I was almost blue in the face asking their people to place the collected bins away from the driveway so I could enter and leave the driveway without having to move the bins. They continued to place the bins in a position that would block ingress and egress.
I contacted customer service a number of times to ask them to get their people to fix the issue. Ignored.
The last two occasions, I threatened to leave them if things didnt change. They didnt.

So I called them and let them know I wanted to leave. They told me they would cancel the contract for me, but that I must pay a €50 termination fee - and that it was in their terms and conditions that I had to pay, that they had to charge me.
I argued that the only reason I was leaving was because of their poor service, and now I was being punished because I wouldnt accept it.
I had a look at the terms and conditions, and there was nothing to say they had to charge me an early termination fee. It said that they reserved the right to - but not obliged to.

Of course, they wouldnt listen - but I was glad to get rid of them.

Almost 6 weeks after cancelling the contract, I get a nasty letter from the credit controller, saying that my account had an overdue balance.
I had been paying by direct debit, which meant that should the amount I was being charged would change, they could collect the increased amount without needing prior approval.
What they did was close the account, but add 50 euro charge to it.

The letter states that if they do not receive immediate payment of the "overdue amount", my "debt" would be sent to a collection agency.

Then below, it says if you have settled your account recently, ignore the letter and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
    Too late!

Had I received correspondence before asking for the payment, I would have reluctantly paid it. But non correspondence from the company and then this threatening letter 6 weeks later is just not right.

If anyone has a thought of availing of BNM services, let this experience serve as a warning of what to expect.
