Male Cavapoo has become clingy (more than usual)

Our 3 year old male cavapoo (not neutered) has over the past 2 weeks had a complete personality change. He got very close to our 16 year old son, including now sleeping up in his room (when his own bed is in our room at night).

What we discovered last weekend is, my sons girlfriend has a female cavapoo that is in heat (this dog is just under 1 year old), and my son visits that house regularly. We're assuming this is what has driven this personality change in him, but would love to know if there might be something else going on.

He's unbearable now when the kids are going off to school in the morning, the most horrible kind of howling. We've also had to start keeping the front gate closed in our driveway as last weekend he was out on the road (which didn't bother him previously). Each time he goes outside now one of us goes with him as we just don't trust where he will end up. It's hard to explain the change in him. He was always clingy enough in that if i was working from home he would sleep beside me in the office, if I went downstairs he would follow me, basically follow me throughout the house unless he was wrecked tired.

Now he couldnt' really care less where my wife and I are, he'll still welcome us home from work etc - but will disappear off to wherever our son is then.

I'm thinking it has to be something to do with the the female dog in heat back the road from us. I'm wondering if we do get him neutered, will it stop issues like this - or is it too late?

Could be he’s noticing the females scent on your son yeah. Enquire with vet but I’d say getting them neutered (presuming your happy enough to do) should sort it out.
