Bike shop / mechanic recommendation

I built up a new bike over the winter, took it for a spin yesterday and had a big speed wobble at about 50kph that whipped the bars from side to side, that scared the sh..e out of me, it seemed to start from the back of the bike.

I would like to get a professional to give it a once over. Can anyone recommend a mechanic / bike shop in the Cork /Kerry / limerick area? I know at lot would have no interest in looking at a new bike that wasn't bought from them, which is fair so probably an independent mechanic as opposed to a big retailer. Many thanks

is the fork on the bike one that was supplied with/designed to go on the frame? or sourced separately?

I had the exact same thing happen me. It's the scariest thing I have ever experienced. Still extremely nervous going fast on a bike 2 years later.

I brought my bike into the bike shop to get it checked out. All good. I ended up losing all confidence in that bike and buying a new one.

Even though the bike I had the death wobble on had been used massively with no incident up to that point.

There is many reasons that can cause it. Bike stiffness/flexibility, wind, taller and heavier riders appear more prone to it. A combination of different conditions.

Apparently you can bring it back under control by gripping the crossbar with your legs and that absorbs the vibrations.

Anyways Best of luck getting to the root of the problem.

Yeah fork frame handlebars all new from the same model, everything is torqued to spec and rechecked. Only thing I noticed is maybe a small bit of imbalance in the back wheel and I did feel the back a bit skittish once or twice when decending, wheels ara also new

Cheers, Yeah from doing a bit of research, it seems alot more common then I would have known. Read up a bit and outside of the obvious things like a loose headset not easy to diagnose.

Seen this was interesting https://velo.outsideonline.com/road/road-training/bicycle-speed-wobbles-how-they-start-and-how-to-stop-them/ even a video of it happening.

I do think mine might be coming from the real wheel so hopefully can get someone to look at that

In an update to this , next stop is a bike fit as I've been told the issue would be at least worsened by centre of gravity being too far back, not having enough weight on the bars when at speed. Moved the seat forward 5mm and definitely made an improvement. Probably no harm as I haven't had a bike fit in 10 years. Any recommendations for a bike fitter in same area Cork / Kerry / limerick? TIA
