hi, just looking for soma guidance and maybe to be put at ease as since last year I’ve suffered with mental health and sadly some alcohol related issues as a result. It has led to me missing probably about 12 weeks of work altogether and I am now growing concerned about being dismissed although people tell you how ‘difficult’ that is. I feel as if I would deserve it due to being unreliable through all this. I am getting the help I need and slowly recovering so I would hate to be knocked back.

I doubt you will be dismissed unless you majorly f'd up. I would imagine they would delay your 2025 increment based on your sick leave . (That has happened me in the past). Do they know the reason you were out? If you have been open and honest with them throughout the entire process that would stand in your favour. You don't have to disclose the reason you were out of course I'm not suggesting that. Have you talked to the CSEAS officer assigned to your department? They can be of great assistance. I also have used them in the past until the officer for my department retired .

Have you been referred to the CMO for review? Delighted to hear you are getting help, and again I would re-emphasise the CSEAS.

Are you still on probation? If not then it is highly unlikely that they will dismiss you over sick leave. If you are on probation, do make sure that you are talking to the CSEAS and you will probably be referred to the CMO as they will need to sign off on whether you are capable of doing the job. You will need to be super honest with the CMO, they are doctors so the details are confidential, just their recommendation is shared.

Even if you are permanent already, do make sure you talk to CSEAS and ask if you should talk to the CMO as they may be able to help too.

Well done for getting help, it is not easy but keep going 💪💪💪

I don't want to start a new thread so hope it's ok to post here, I am out sick recovering from an operation and I have had a few setbacks. I will need to contact HR about Critical illness payment as I don't want to go to half pay after 3 months. Has anyone had any experience with this? I will not be able to return to work in the office or remotely and will more than likely need another operation.
