The Road to 80kg

    Hello everyone.

I’m a 31 year old 5’10 fella. Today (Sunday 16.2.25) I stepped on the scale at a hefty 108kg. I want to be under 80kg and I’ve given myself until the end of the year to achieve that. I’m aiming to do so with a mix of weights, cardio and, most importantly by far, a massive improvement in my eating habits.

I’ve started this thread for the purpose of personal accountability, tracking my progress and reflecting.

The first tentative steps taken on the road to 80kg.

Good for you, hope it goes well. Just curious, do you drink much??.

I have a few friends in similar situation, want to hit a certain weight ,improve food diet , do training but still hoover the pints, and they can't figure out why it's not working to plan....

Thanks for the support. I drink very little. I’d say I get to the pub once every two months and I’m not a fan of drinking at home. Finding/making time around family commitments will be my big challenge along with changing shocking bad eating habits.

Best of luck, just started a similar road myself, if you ever feel like its a lot of effort or not working. Don't cheat, don't give up, just remember that if you can distract yourself for 15 minutes, you will get over it most of the time and continue on. Eating habit changes have made a huge difference for me and I am only two weeks so an easy target that is hard to stick with.

I gave up drinking last summer and have put on weight since then, can’t figure it out.

if it’s working for you would you mind putting up your diet at some stage. I’m a few years older, bit heavier and a bit taller, I’d like to get down to 90-95, so similar enough I suppose.

I gave up the drink 8 months ago but put on weight due to the extra amount of crisps and chocolate I started eating instead. I hit 90kgs and decided I needed to do something about it. I stumbled across Alan Carrs "Easy way to quit emotional eating" I was seriously sceptical at first but after reading halfway through it it started to make sense so I finished the book and haven't touched junk food since, and zero willpower needed as the author promises! I've lost 9kg in 3 months. I know it's not for everyone but I really recommend you give it a try. I got through the whole of Christmas without ever being tempted to touch a sweet and before I read the book I was absolutely addicted to chocolate

    It is what it is

    Week 1
    Weight: 106.2
    Total Lost: 1.8kg

A good week to begin with. On Monday and Friday I got to the gym. On Tuesday I got to play 9 holes of golf, a really rare treat. On Wednesday I didn’t do any exercise. On Thursday and Saturday I did 30 minutes on the walking pad here at home. Not very structured but I’m fitting it in around family life so once I’m up off my arse it’s good.

Eating was much improved. No snacking between meals, getting 4-5 pints of water in per day. Avoiding loads of carbs and conscious of portion sizes.

I’ve often had one or two great weeks and then old habits creep in, leaving me where I started, but I’m quite determined that this time will be different.

Congrats, don't get disheartened if you have a week where you lose little or no weight, just keep doing what your doing consistently and you'll get there.

    It is what it is

    Week 2
    Weight: 104.7kg
    Total Lost: 3.3kg

A good week. Busy with work and family so didn’t get to the gym but got up on the treadmill Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. I went for a hill climb Tuesday evening because the weather was nice. Took about 90 minutes with some steep climbs. I really enjoyed it, great way to get the heart and legs pumping with some lovely views.

Still staying out of the biscuit press. Onwards and upwards.

Sounds good and heading in the right direction. Soon all the activities will be part of you normal day.

    Keep it up.

    Week 3
    Weight: 104kg
    Change: -0.7kg
    Total lost: 4kg

An exceptionally busy week at work had me pretty much on deadlines from Monday to Friday so I got no exercise in. That’s life, I still shaved off half a KG and the coming week should be quieter.

Still eating well. Happy to be approaching 100kg, it’s a mini goal I’ve had in mind. Hoping to put in a really positive week this week.

Fair play to you with the weight loss 👋 . Can I ask what have you changed with regard to your eating plan?Like what would you eat now that you wouldn't have before. I did a good bit of running up until late last year when I got ill and stopped running for a few months. Piled on a bit of weight and struggling to lose it. I am a fecker when it comes to snacking at evening time. Everyday I say no junk food in the evening but that doesn't last long. Snacking on chocolate bars, crisps and fizzy drinks
