Familiarise yourself with the role competencies and prepare replies using the STAR method. It's literally that simple. A lot of people overcomplicate the interview but I've done it for both the full time and reserve in the past and passed on both occasions.

    Best of luck!

Hey mate, do you mind me asking was the interview for the full time role similar to the interview for the Garda Reserves?… Like yourself I’ve also done the interview for the Reserves and passed that, but not sure how much more difficult this one will be.

    Cheers

Hey! It was pretty much the exact same with the exception of the Garda rank in interview.

Reserve was Sgt. whereas Full Time is Insp.

They also discuss your your written report in the full time interview (which is not applicable for reserve) along with this new scenario role play piece.

I had mine, personally the roleplay part is very introductory I found you are given adequate time to jot notes and then when it begins approach the situation about your key points.

I hadn't undertaken an interview of any kind in quite sometime so an assessment of recollections on various aspects of skills did test me and in that regard its tough to say whether I delivered something they believe can be worked upon.

Cross the fingers once again, all the best everyone.

The interview is fine. The hardest most nerve wrecking part was waitin on the zoom to start🙉 once your answering the Questions then it'll be fine ..It's based on work life and life experience how will u react in certain situations. It all happens so fast and they just hit you with Qs. Take your time, think before you answer and be honest. I'm sure they understand your nervous and that will be taking into consideration. Im sure theyll take into consideration that your not a guard and its just what you think they should do. The sinario is a role play where you take the roll of the guard.

So here's to another wait for the outcome. Goodluck everyone 🫶

    hi all,

I have my interview this week coming and I’m just reading through the familiarisation material.

It mentions “you will be sent your written exercise response in advance of your interview, which you can refer to during the interview”

I haven’t received any response on my written exercise, other than that I passed it!

Have I missed an email/update?? I know what I wrote in the writing exercise but it’s worded as though I should have been sent a breakdown of it in advance of the interview.

    all advice welcome

Interview done, wasn't as bad as I expected. I actually enjoyed it tbh and hope I did enough to pass. Best of luck to everyone else.

Nice one! All the best. Not going to ask you to give anything away but I've just got 1 question... was the role play intense? I.e. did the inspector put a lot of pressure etc on you

mine was after urs I can’t even call it 🙈

I just got my written exam sent to me.

I was expecting it to have some sort of feedback or criticism with it.

It’s literally just what I wrote in the test itself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭gibsondoyle

Yep, it's just so you can refamiliarise yourself with your response for any questions they might ask.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Dubman7

It's hard to say really, it was obviously supposed to be challenging like in a real life situation but all I would say is trust your judgement, be confident and act like you would if it was real life. I imagine they're very understanding that you're not a guard yet so I wouldn't expect them to expect us to know processes, procedures etc.

Try remember that they want you to succeed in the interview, so confidence is everything and try imagine it being like having a coffee with someone and telling them the stuff you've accomplished in your life, rather than an interview. Good luck!

Hi I’m hoping someone can help! I’m from the North and I’m not sure exactly what documents will suffice for the proof of qualification. I have completed a higher national diploma at level 5 at the Belfast MET which is the equivalent to between a level 6/7 on the Irish national framework, I’m just wondering is this enough or will I have to apply for my results invidually for all my GCSE’s and A levels? :)

just wondering has a WhatsApp group for this years recruitment been created?

I wonder will they wait until all the interviews are done to start the fitness? Does anyone know from previous years how they did it? Obviously interview structure is different this year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭berry2020

I was told it will go by the month. As in April will be called next for fitness while May interviews are ongoing. And so on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 JoshC93

I may be wrong but didn't it state once you were told you passed the interview you had 4 weeks to attempt the fitness test, was anyone who completed the interview yet told how long before they would be told if they passed?
