    Hello,

What do you think? Will Ireland get something like the UK with true unlimited Data for a van? The Irish Operators could act in theory If too mutch Data will be used abroad.

    a Van ?

Advertisement Standards Authority issued a statement last May that they all had 6 months grace to change unlimited to exactly that and remove caps.

Is that what you are referencing?

between Vodafone Ire & Sky Ire I’m sure in time they will realise esp up the Ire/UK border area people will jump ship to either^ and they gonna have to move forward in a manner.

Given Three U.K. & Vodafone UK merger I assume Three Emerald will be the first and Eire will drag its feet and probably only give it to its €9.99 broadband customers to start with as a ‘additional perk’ ontop of the €10 off until such time as many people leave for Three/Voda/Sky Ireland.

Three Ire prob won’t put EU unlimited data on wholsesale MVNO’s until Eire introduce it to all customers & GoMo.

Swings ‘ roundabouts, but given U.K./Ireland border it’s a unique position Emerald Islw e mobile telcos fall in, especially more so post Southern Brexit.

    Hi,

I want to discuss some interesting things whitch I found out If I think about our and your Mobilemarket.

I am maltese and we dont have Like Ireland MVNOs. We have three operators. Melita Go and Epic. Unlimited Data starts at 8.50 after 12 month its 19.99. Ireland with Vodafone its 35 euro for 10mbits whitch is slower and more pricy then in Malta. I found it really interesting that we are a bit cheaper without MVNO.

Minimum wage in Ireland is over double that of Malta, likely market affordability dictating pricing.

€20 a month with Vodafone gets you unlimited data in Ireland

There are other operators that give unlimited for 10.99 (either go mo or 48)

3 give you unlimited data just for topping up by €20 and you get to keep your €20 credit to spend on other services

That Three 3 Prepay plan is now grandfathered for newbies. They replaced it with 3 Prepay Hero with unlimited everything for $15 to con people to move plans under the save €5 guise to stop the €20 free credit on 3Prepay.

Then Hero went up to €25 as standard with no free credit as a new plan as “Three Connect Complete”

Ah there is a 3 customer here getting the old deal still, didn't know it was gone now

Still though, the OPs point isn't very accurate as you can get all you can eat plans much cheaper than he's mentioned above

35 for 10gb (presume gb and not mb as stated) with Vodafone is probably some bill plan with a stupid expensive phone included

Well it does sound very Vodafone, I looked at a Voda U.K. 30 day sim to come back over for the holidays and it was £45, I nearly wet myself laughing! It went up from £32 last time I had it whilst every other one of the other main networks, o2, EE & Three U.K. have fallen more and more, even cheaper with their MVNOs.

Lebara Unlimited everything 30 days 3 months half price £12.50 (on par with Eire) & Voda want £45 hahahaha - Unlimited EU data €45 with Voda €15 with Sky.

You’d think they Voda had premium national networks like 20 odd years ago HA!

    Hello,

My skymobile experience abroad in Germany is amazing. I roam curretly in Germany with Telekom and I am really satisfied with the Speed call quality and the service. Please share the experience what you have with the esim abroad.

Can you post a screenshot of the speeds you are getting? I'm curious if they are throttling the speeds abroad or not?

They throttle this is a fresh Test in Hamburg

Damn, so I guess it's unlimited but throttled. I was getting full 5G speeds with Vodafone. I guess you have to pick which is more important to you.

    Why is it throttled?

It’s supposed to be roam like home, and it’s not throttled at home.

Has anyone reached out to Sky to provide feedback and get an official word on it?

Well. Technically they are not violating any terms or conditions. Their estimated maximum upload speed using 5G is 25Mbps in Ireland, so if they are offering that abroad then technically you are "roaming like home".

hmm true, but if it’s constantly that speed, and not going over, then sound like its throttled, and to me that’s not roaming at home. The fact that they don’t highlight it makes it seem underhand (if throttling is true). I wonder what Comreg would think of that.

What about the quality of service?

‘Roam like at home’ also extends to the quality of mobile service, so you should have a similar roaming experience as at home.

For example, a roaming customer who can use 5G services at home should also have 5G roaming services when this is available. In some cases, this will not be possible if the local network is not as good as the one you use at home.

However, your mobile provider should do its best to offer the same quality of service when possible and inform you of how the roaming service may differ from the service you use at home.

This information should be available in your contract and made publicly available (for example, on your mobile provider’s website).

the 25Mbps 5G max speed is met for EU Directive roaming though that’s the point, Ire will be faster, but it covers Sky & Voda butt to say you have enough to stream 4K to the connecting device which EU would require.

Honestly 25Mbps abroad is good enough with me.

Same, had I been on the ball I should have done Sky on a physical rather than in a situation where I needed a eSIM losing my Three prepaid and old iPhone for roaming.

I’ve hardly used it over here but at least it’s there if 30 day EE MVNO main doesn’t have a signal or my Talkmobile (Voda MVNO) MiFi it will auto use o2 (only) on Sky Ireland sim. Which is handy as o2 have the best lowest Band 20 spectrum for indoor penetration in the rare event both EE (multitude of bands) & Voda high speed only 5G isn’t available. I’ve even borrowed a Three business sim (£6) unlimited data to put in my old Netgear M2 I had at the old folks house from years ago so I’m covered by 4 networks (soon to be three), to be honest the Three sim is so saturated it can drop to 10Mbps and tops of 50Mbps most places in the early hours of the morning, which isn’t a issue due to 650GB EE MVNO 5G router I’m using at that time of the morning. I plan for redundancy redundancies as I rarely ever have broadband so I’m always planned for anyone who has slow broadband. BT network is still pants and Ofcom universal speed under right wing Gov was out at 10Mbps in 2018!!
    Useless!!

    https://www.bt.com/broadband/USO

Voda 5G is great for speed but not coverage on rural landmass.

But if all else fails me to book a taxi app or use the Traveline app o2 coverage on Sky is there.

Ireland 3 networks, UK 4 networks I cover all the bases, especially UK side given the 10Mbps being “adequate”, sorry what? Hahaha… third world country UK the broadband is the proof, why I keep leaving every opportunity I can ;)

Videouploads are pretty fast as well

in my experience 5G mobile upload speeds are the same or way better than low or mid range broadband/fibre upload speeds, portable.

I found this particularly great using 5G roaming or even a Vodafone U.K. prepaid sim on VUK with some band manipulation software as they only have high speed 5G spectrum and haven’t taken even B20 800MHz LTE into DSS 5G as it’s so oversaturated as LTE anyway & it would degrade the service worse with DSS 5G (they may have done now but not by the end of covid lockdowns).

My upload locked to Band 3 and above 5G uploads were blazing fast that regularly they beat Virgin Media UK (own network) upload speeds, by far.
