Wall mount for Interior Concrete Wall

    Hi,

Does anybody have recommendations for a TV mount/bracket to hang a 65" TV on an interior concrete wall?

I purchased a Sanus VLFS820-B2 without realising we do not fit the minimum requirements:

Mount wall plate 08 directly onto concrete surface (no wall covering)

    ● Minimum solid concrete thickness: 8 in. (203 mm)

    ● Minimum concrete block size: 8 x 8 x 16 in. (203 x 203 x 406 mm)

    ● Minimum spacing between lag bolts is 16

I estimate our wall is concrete block with thickness at about 5.5 inches, so this won't suit our needs.

However I am struggling to find a mount suitable for our wall, they all either require thicker walls or stud walls.

    Anybody with any recommendations?

    Thanks

Hi! At a guess it's the supplied hardware such as the screws and dowels which are the limitation with that kit. What I would do is go down to a hardware store (or a builder's merchant) and obtain wall anchors which will work with the existing space for the screw-heads. An example are these anchors:

    Or these:

They should be sized for around 2/3 of the depth of the wall, so around 90mm. You need to pre-drill the holes carefully with a smaller bit and work upwards and it should be fine.

    That would be my workaround.

Oh interesting, I hadn't thought of that, and figured it just would not be a suitable depth to hold the load.

Thanks for the information, as I can't return the mount so I would prefer to use it if possible.

    Thanks again!

As long as you install them correctly, they will be stronger than the original fixtures.

OP are you sure you need a minimum of 8inches to fix it to the wall??? That's sounds wrong.

That's my understanding of the manual. I was surprised too, never considered the thickness would be an issue. But surprisingly there are a lot of mounts that only support stud walls.

I've attached the manual if you are interested, maybe I am misunderstanding it.

Yes, I concur. I mean a 65" Television is not very heavy, and the concrete plugs and screws described above are perfect for the job at 3", I think. More than that is overkill.

Step 2b is showing a 3inch deep hole with a 10mm bit. I see where is says about the minimum thickness alright?

I install TV mounts on a regular basis and I've never drilled anywhere close to an 8inch hole.

Are you sure you want a large TV like that moving and swivelling?

I'd gotten the same one of those for our 55in, but returned it for a flat-to-wall TV mount, it doesn't move so there's less stress on the fittings.

Even if it was fully extended out 3inch lag bolts into solid block is fine.

But I do agree with you, I often advice clients against them unless the tele is in a corner or needs to be at a weird angle. 99% of the time once a tele is installed it's never adjusted and swivel mounts are totally unnessasry.

We don't plan on moving it once up, but it's in a corner so needs to be swivelled a bit (I'd say about 5 degrees), but once positioned, don't intend on moving it. The TV came with a flat to wall mount but we need it slightly swivelled for best viewing angle.

Get some suitable wall plugs and fix it up with the supplied coach bolts. It won't move. Don't over tighten them

Ok great, thanks for all the help folks!

Just to update this, got this installed and it's very sturdy, no issues so far. I also checked another mount which seemed more suitable for the wall and it's weight was pretty much the same as the Sanus. Very happy with it. Thanks folks.
