Seeing as we have quite a wide spectrum of opinions on the direction of Irish transport policy under new management, here’s a chance to put your money where your mouth is and make a call on what’ll happen between now and late 2029.

    Predict

    A) Which schemes will commence construction under the new Government

    B) Which schemes will have planning submissions to An Bord Pleanala under the new Government

(Note A: the Adare bypass section of the M21 and the M28 in full can be omitted here as they are under construction or very close to it)

My prediction: N25 at Glenmore for a planning submission.

Well I suppose it all depends on what’s progressed as regards as design/planning CPO and next to shovel ready so that list and political geography will decide what happens next.
I am very glad to see the political climate change - from a road safety post of view alone it’s essential we see new road upgrades. Roads like the N24 and N20 have terrible accidents rates so it’s essential they are addressed asap

I think a lot more will go into planning but remarkably little will go into construction. There isn't a huge pipeline of "ready to go" stuff, and those things that are in planning are bogged down in ABP. Also, absolutely every scheme is subject to judicial reviews thesedays and unless theres a Ryder Cup to pay off a JR a la M21, then they will all have to do the rounds of the courts.

    I hope I'm wrong though.

New government appointments with effect on roads projects:

Darragh O’Brien is the new minister for Transport, Environment and Energy. That’s a pretty big department: previously, Transport was a standalone department.

Jack Chambers in Public Expenditure and Reform.

I don't think your correct about transport. O'Brien is down as Minister for Climate, Environment & Energy & Minister for Transport.

You're correct. He's been given two portfolios, not one huge one. I misinterpreted the wording of the press release.

He has the same portfolio(s) as per Minister Ryan.

I think/Hope the N17 scheme will progress, at least to ABP and that the scheme is brought back to its original intention, of being a dual carriageway from Collooney roundabout to just past Knock airport. Marian Harkin supporting the government as a Junior Minister as well as Frankie Feighan (FG) and Eamon Scanlon (FF), all from Sligo, pushing for this project, if its not going to happen in this government, then I give up!
