    Hi,

I hope you are all well.

I have a 2006 Honda Accord. On Thursday morning, I went out and pressed the key fob and no response. It was the coldest night of the week and the actual door lock was frozen.

I put some antifreeze on the key and inserted it and opened the car..of course the alarm started ringing.

So do any of you know what I could do to get the key fob working again?

I have x2 keyfobs and they have both worked perfectly until now.

I changed the battery a cr1616 on one fob and the fob will still not work.

So I can open and drive the car, but cannot stop the alarm.

My normal mechanic is back next week, until then I am really stuck.

Have any of you any advice how I can fix this?

    Thank you,

    A

Is the red led light on the key coming on when you press any of the buttons on the keys?

Hi, thank you for the reply…

good question… no, the red light does not flash on the key fob..

I am not sure if it did before… but they both worked before Thursday morning / Wednesday night!

Yes if they are the original Honda keys it should. Cold weather can kill off weak batteries in keys too.

I'd get another new CR1616 battery, get a different brand this time, try that in both keys. The led would come on the key even if car isn't in range or has an issue, if you get a key working, the rest should be fine.

You could be right about the battery…

I will get a couple of new ones tomorrow..

One keyfob opens easily and the other one… i couldnt open the small screw..possibly corroded a bit and rounded the screw… it hasnt been a good week!!

Last question for you: how do I confirm the exact battery to get for this key fob?

    A Honda Accord 2.0 iVTEC2.0 2006… sorry.. maybe I just just google?!

    Thank u!

Yes the screws on those keys are a nightmare. Just replace with what was in it, there should be a code on the battery itself, otherwise will have the number in the cars owners manual. A lot of keys are CR2032 battery but a Google is telling me CR1616 which is what you were trying.

Make sure you're putting the battery in the right way round. People putting them in upside down is a common event.

We had a case a while ago in the motoring section where a poster wrongly thought there was a problem with his keyfob and it turned out to be a series of bad coin cell batteries was the problem. Get a reputable one from Tesco, not Dealz.

Evening! i bought a duracell cr1616 battery and replaced it & the key fob works perfectly.. thanks for the advice!

i am going to try and get the rounded tiny screw out of the other key fob & i'll be sorted!

I know you git sorted with the batteries but you can stop the alarm on these easily enough. Insert the key into the drivers door barrel and kind of double turn it quickly anti- clockwise - that should disable the alarm.
