Nike. It's a bargain at this price. I also like Google and Pernod Ricard

Their was a member a few years back that done up a Google document to track 3 share picks for each member for the year to see how it turned out.

Is their anyone who can set one up ?

On an other note I do like Nike as well, it is in a five year descending wedge, has to break upwards at some stage.

I closed all positions except for ASML last month and have been opening new positions between yesterday and today.

Yesterday, I opened positions in Solventum, Nike, CRH and Schlumberger. Then, this morning, I opened positions in DHL and BASF.

Plenty others on my watchlist but those are the trades so far.

I may continue some Bitcoin exposure via sale of IBIT Cash Secured Puts on any pullback too.

I'm also short a Covered Call secured against the shares I hold in ASML.

Are Nike not a bit of a dog? Even when they manage to get the hype train going on some fad the sp doesnt seem to go anywhere…

a bit at a loss where to invest this year as everything in US is overvalued and everything in Europe is going to 💩

Might just stick to BRKB, JAM and JGGI and maybe GOOGL

If Anduril goes public this year will pile in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 Chalkman

Don't know about Nike. CEO is making all the right sounds but just have an aversion to US stocks at moment. I think BRKB could be a wise is all. My three workhorses (hopefully!!) are Tullow, Dcc and BP.

hi all, haven't posted here in a long time but would be a long term lover of all things investments. Sold all my positions in December as I think the market is in a very funny position, especially US Tech. Wouldnt be 100% convinced on Nike but will open a small position as its definitely fallen back quite a bit.
I spoke to a pal recently who has been investing quite a bit of loot in Uranium stocks. Anyone here have any experience or views on these?
Personally I think stocks have gone well the last few years could be under pressure in 2025 so looking for the next big thing such as Uranium or something like Indian market etfs as India is in a growth phase. Basically anything a bit left field with a decent upside. Any non mainstream recommendations?

I agree that US is likely to be the outperformer over the coming 5 years. I believe the majority of large companies will increase reliance on technology, increasing productivity and, using tech, do the same work with less employees.

Its knock on effect will also mean that Trump can increase deportation levels as planned whilst maintaining a high employment level in the US.

With reduced employee counts achieving the same work, most US companies should see improved profitability - but the tech companies will take a piece of the pie from all companies savings achieved using technology, i.e. Unilever will happily pay $1,000,000 for an AI solution that saves them $5,000,000 annually.

My pension is 95% USA and has a very heavy skew towards technology.

With direct investment, be very careful investing in US stocks as you need to bear in mind the potential estate taxes if holding over $60,000.

I am aware of US tax liability its living taxes I wish 2 avoid I am irish nonres so no CGT.

I do a 2 yearly draw down waiting for euro parity for my next 1 maybe around may.

Sorry but could you explain the first line again. I bought a few EU stock recently for hopefully long term as I thought the tax would be more straightforward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 356 ✭✭somenergy

    It's the stamp duty .5%

I use an online broker it's charges are 1$ per transaction I don't want to have to factor 1/2% on my transactions dumb ass tax which applies to euro and UK stocks

I think this may be slightly inaccurate, in that there is no stamp duty payable on many Euro stocks, there is a 1% charge on Irish shares, 0.5% on UK ones, in France I think it's 0.3% for companies valued over €1bn, nothing on German, Spanish, and probably many more countries afaik.

I agree with your point though, keep trading costs down as much as possible, lots of brokers now offering commission free trading.

Relatively new to investing.. just wondering in general what are your criteria for selecting stocks?

Do you assess by the company Financials? Trendy stocks, gut feeling?

What are your thoughts on ALGN?

Fancy an advanced stage Copper Gold Exploration Company with $30 million in the bank following a recent fundraising?

    Check out Arizona metals. AMC.TO

Resource numbers to be announced in H1 and Preliminary economic assessment in H2 + other exploratory drilling.

Share price is at ~Year low currently.

There is a guy called Peter Grandich raves about it on YouTube etc and has put his money into it.

It is rare to see an Explanation Company so well funded.

Worth mentioning that big Investment funds don't invest until the resource numbers come out.

I closed some positions over Christmas and my current trading positions are, Dell, DXCM, Kingsoft Cloud & I still hold a little GOEV just for the sheer lunacy of it 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 356 ✭✭somenergy

Now with platforms that have no management or hefty transaction fees and pay interest on cash balances a .5% tax makes those stock less attractive that gives US stocks an advantage.

The day a stock is purchased the buy price been higher a loss is sometime incurred add the .5% it will look worse.

I do not encourage poeple to over extend on risk to much as keeping cash is important.

We have had 2 strong years in US equities a third maybe a big ask.

Historic PE ratios for the S&P 500 for the last 10 years. Current PE ratio of 27.5 .

    Source Macrotrends.com.

As you can see the market isn't exactly cheap at the moment.

Good post if you go via JAM (which is on London stock exchange) you can avoid that last part about estate taxes I think, tho that’s minor in my case as end of life is hopefully still far away 😊

This video is worth a watch. As was mentioned, new CEO is making right noises after they messed up during the pandemic.

Terrible performance by the drug makers lately, a nice little nest egg Id built up in Regeneron from working for them is heading towards -50% in 12 months.
