New Laptop Win 11: Using Back Up from prev Laptop + License Agreement

I have just setup a new Win 11 laptop. During the process Windows asked me if I wanted to use a back up from my other Laptop?

Using back up from my other laptop? Does that mean that Microsoft without my consent takes back up of the c drive on my laptop?????

I want to check whether that is stated in the License Agreement. During the installation process, Windows asked me to accept the License Agreement. That agreement amounts to about 27 pages of legal text which is something I - as a mortal citizen - have absolutely NO CHANCE of seeing through. No way I'll accept that Microsoft steals data located outside the Windows area.

So: Does anybody know how to find the same license agreement that Windows present to you during the installation proces?

And: If one does not want to buy another Windows laptop and does not want an Apple, what options are there? Linux, is that still an option?

You probably have a Microsoft account linked to the email addresses used when you setup windows. There was a site that skimed through licenses to highlight the important bits , can't remember which one.

Lots of providers keep changing terms and conditions in the hope that one day you'll click the wrong option. And they'll probably try to sneak in new apps in updates like CoPilot or Recall

If you have a phone then Google / Apple / Samsung / the Chinese / Eir / Three / Vodafone / TLA's are keeping tabs on you anyway.

Linux Mint , use USB tethering from your phone (works with most OS installs these days) so you don't have to faff about setting up WiFi (do it later) and can download drivers etc during setup.

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, windows did ask for a Microsoft account. It wouldn't continue installing, unless I entered the credentials for an MS account. Perhaps I should have set up a new account with no data saved, I see your point.

So, Linux is still an option. I wasn't sure. I am not fond of Linux - it was impossible to get connected to the LAN, but I will be happy to check out Linux Mint, as you mentioned, even just to spite Microsoft. Since they gave Windows away for free, their business model turned vicious.

This "backup" is probably Microsoft speak for saving your user folders in OneDrive. Usually the Desktop, Documents and Photos folders, maybe one or two more.
