Just wondering?? as most doctors send the prescription through to a person's preferred Chemist shop… who owns the Prescription ??

Can I ask for a Print out of the prescription to take away & check & compare the cost at other Chemist shops.

If a Chemist shop refuses to print it for me what are my rights ??

    Thank you

A printed version from a pharmacy is not a valid prescription so would be no use whatsoever. You could have typed it up yourself.

The doctor will have to re-send it to a new pharmacy.

I would expect all pharmacies to refuse to print it off, as it would be useless. You can phone around for pricing without having the script once you know what you're getting.

The labelling tells u exactly what u have for pricing round

Do pharmacists give quotes now , hopefully so ,.used to be a restricted type operation

Prescription itself is sent to ur preferred pharmacy as said already and can't be hawked around afaik

You can ask your doctor to email a copy of the prescription to you.

If the pharmacy has the physical copy of the prescription, rather than an emailed copy, you can ask them for that.

Our pharmacy has printed off prescriptions for us - when there was a query as to what was sent through by doctor/what should have been sent through - so that they could show us, and we were able to bring the copy away with us to discuss with doctor. But the copy prescription has a great big "COPY" written across it. So they might do it, but you won't be able to use it anywhere else. (But you could use it to ask for costs).

My GP gives the option of a printed prescription, or sending it through to the pharmacy of choice.

My pharmacy have printed off a copy of the Doctor's email to them with the prescription details for me, on request.

Your doctor will give you a printed prescription if you ask. I always get a printout of a repeating script as I'm not always in the same area when I need it filled.

A script emailed directly to a patient wouldn't be valid. Emailed scripts are only valid if they're within the healthmail network and there's only a handful of email domains that have access to it.

Normally a pharmacy would have no issue forwarding a script onto another pharmacy but that gets really messy if you're going to be using a different pharmacy each time. In that scenario, your easiest option is requesting the GP to issue a paper copy and pick it up from the surgery. If you just want a copy for pricing around etc, most places will print a copy and forward on the email if you tell them where you want it sent.

If the patient just wants a price list then an email is perfect.

Jaysus can he not just price around for the medicine and take it from there

Can you ring up a pharmacy and ask them the price of a medicine?
