    Hi folks

On to building my garden room / Gym in the new year... I have already laid a 1000x300mm strip foundation for an area just under 25m2. Footings / block work is done up to floor level but looking for advice on which way to proceed..

    1. Should I go the cavity wall route - inner and outer skin with 100mm cavity, and internal insulation, finished with a warm flat roof
    2. Timber frame with PIR panels, unsure of external finish.... cladding ? Block and render ?

What's ppeople's opinions and pros and cons

Are you asking whether to do internal or external insulation?

For a gym I'd do internal because you'll want to change the temperature quickly between cool (for working out) and warm (for sitting on your end), so you want as little thermal mass as possible inside the insulation.

Essentially yes.. I'm aware the thermal.mass may not suit the gym etc. So would a timer frame build be better suited and do the outer skin in bricks ?

For a shed/garden room more so than a gym I always thought a 6" block and external insulation would be a good solid option but you never hear of such a construction.

I have 350mm footings laid so have options. The room will be used as a garden room/ office and sectioned into a gym.

Might just go ahead and Continue with the cavity wall, pumped insulation and a slab of insulated plasterboard inside.

Sounds like a good idea, as you'll have better sound proofing and it's probably less likely to overheat in summer.

Just came across this thread. How is it working out? I am at a planning stage of installing a garden Room/office and gym similar to yours. Any further advice to offer, How is the ventilation or is that a problem?
