Knitting - quick question

Hi guys, I'm going to start knitting an Afghan throw/blanket. The materials for all patterns in the book say "Worsted Weight Yarn" - is Aran wool okay? Secondly the pattern says "Afghan is worked holding two strands of yarn togther". Does this mean I know the whole thing with two balls of wool on go? Never did that before!!

I can't knit to save my life, but I remember my aunts doing this sometimes, so I'd say yes.

As for your other question, this random person on the web seems to think so (I haven't a clue, like I said).

Yup, correct on both fronts. Aran is mid way between chunky and doubleknit, so close to worsted.

Holding the two yarns together isn't too hard. If you can start the balls from the centre instead of the outside then they won't roll around and tangle up so much. (to pull from the centre, reach right into the middle of the ball and pull out a string. takes a little practice but really handy, if you pull out too much, just poker around in that for the end and it'll sort itself out eventually)
