Web Cam's Vanished?

New, 'Ugreen' usb web cam. Plugged it in and it played. I remember seeing myself, on my screen.

Then, I remember spotting something about " Permission ", and that's probably all she wrote! 😕

Having calmed down enough to remember I could just unplug it again, I did. Now I tried to make it work again and nope. Plugged in. System's found its Mike, and can hear me. Just no sign of any Film, any more. I've clearly Blocked that, somehow 😬

Err … Help! Please? (10, Firefox)

Thanks, @kippy I just ran through those. Now, we can expand a bit more, I guess?

1. There's no 'permissions' asked, in the FF bit. I see where it tells me to check and decide. Nothing there.

2. I can't find any mention of Ugreen / Cam, what ever, in Programmes. It's like it's not an entity, on there. Obviously, my first thought had been rip it out and reinstall. This time leaving everything as Micky wants it. Nothing too rip out(?!)

3. I just pulled the usb thing, for my mouse? Machine made that sound. Three notes. Put it back in? Four notes. Cam makes No notes. In or out. Yet, Settings. Sound. Microphone: = Ugreen. It's even metering / showing the background sounds of this room. (More than my ears can! Quite weird, that! 😁)

Where's the camera? I Know where 'Camera' is. But, it's not there. System / Ugreen seem to consider it a Microphone. I certainly saw me, earlier today, on this screen. It's a camera too.

It's getting weird, Kippy. Late and weird. It's just that I Had it working! Right out the box. No problemmo. Then, I've touched something ….. 🤦‍♂️

Can you search for and open the "Camera" app on your PC?

See if there's an image of whats on your camera there?

Well, I just found " Apps and Features ". Read, carefully, through the 58 apps listed. Nothing there, relating to cam / web cam / ugreen / microphone … Anything possibly pertaining to this.

Saying that? I Have got the wretched thing ripped ~ physically ~ back out, right now. Dunno. Just feel, if it were gone now? Because it's unplugged? A/ Why no Reconnecting notes, when I Do plug it in? And, B/ How come the mike's still there. But, the lens is dead?

Crazy. I have a feeling it's in my machine, now. I just can't find half of it! 😬

Do a system restore back a day, then start again, this time click allow when asked for permissions.. 😉

@Firblog That was a rave from the grave! I'd honestly forgotten SR even existed! (Bit like Disc Cleanup and Defrag!) Forgot how long it took too.

Well; Mike's now absolutely picking up noise I'm not. And, I found it listed as a Camera, under Bluetooth etc. Devices. All that I could see looked fine. I touched nothing and came away.

Can only really add that it made a Four note sound, when I reattached the usb, post reset. NO sound, coming back out, after my rummage. And, of course, at no point did this room appear on my screen. (There's no buttons, or lights, on this cam, either)

Starting to feel a bit stumped, now!

Ooh!!! My Pen! Bit late, for me, to get down any rabbit holes, yet. But, I remembered! I bought a 'Stylus'? Mouse ye can write with. What ever. USB! Arrived. Unboxed. Had a go. 'Works. So should I …' Week later? Remember it. Plug it in … Ye can guess the rest!

Could it be my USB system? Not sure what other USBery I might have here, to try next. But, it's a thought, isn't it? Perhaps, tomorrow, I can do all this again, with the Pen? See if That appears anywhere, without the physical pen working.

Camera on its own wont work, it requires application that uses it.

try open teams/zoom » settings » devices

MS camera app could be loaded from store if not already on PC

permissions for camera are under settings»privacy&sec

if still not recognized, check device manager

Now, taking this slow, as I'll Try to retain what I've just done, to report those bits too: WC (Web Cam) wasn't showing, in Devices, till I plugged it in. Dunno what that may mean, to you. To me? It at least makes me aware this thing doesn't Appear to have loaded its guts onto my machine. Hmm.

Meanwhile? Yes. I checked. All the other stuff ye said? Looked. Everything's 'Open / On'. What ever should want it, basically, has a VIP Pass in this machine. And my WC's plugged in. I'm Not seeing any action from it on here though. I Haven't dug back in, to check it's Listening. Was, last night and that didn't seem to make any difference, did it?

So, there I am :| '*Hasn't loaded its guts*'. So; How Did it film me, yesterday? Where Is any software this thing may depend on??? Above My pay grade, anyway.

Oh. One other thing? I just took my Camera Camera? USB worked fine, with that. Plugged it together and got the noises, and the pop up box of pictures. Also checked Inside the several 'USB' ports, in Device Manager. ALL 'working fine'.

And, that's where we stand, as of this afters. Possibly even More stumped than last night! 😬 I'm wide awake now, lads. Thread's alerting me. We sort it, or I put it up against the wall and ~ no lost iron! ~ I'll Film That! As I do 😶

In device manager ( how-to-access-device-manager) - look for "Imaging devices", is there any?, any remarks, exclamation symbols?

do you have teams or zoom or "camera" app from MS store?
launch any of them. Under settings you should find tab for "devices" where you should be able to select your audio and video devices as long they recognized by Win.

Found That, via DevMan/ Cameras / Ugreen Camera / Properties / Events. ….. Now, what the hell do I do with it?! 😂

Celebration time though, surely? We Look like having found what it is, making it Still sat there, plugged in, yet useless to me. Don't we?

Oh, yeah. Skype: I looked for Zoom? No. 'Camera'? No. But, believing I see what ye meant, I saw Skype, and looked at that. Got as far as it asking me my name, them telling me the next click …. Nope.

Ah! But, hang on: It worked, yesterday. I saw me, and this room, on my screen. Camera Worked. (My point being, I had no Skype, or anything else then, that I don't have now. See?)

Damn! It all seems to come back to my fit of permission denial. But; I've done that SR, till Nov 30th. Then plugged the cam back in …. 😬

What am I Missing here??? (Oh, yeah! " further installation "?)

With this error no point looking through the apps - camera not recognized/not installed in Win .Not permissions issue
one step at the time
1.unplug web cam ,try different USB port. try remove/reduce any other USB devices before that, swap with keyboard/mouse port. preferably USB3 port for cam, K/M will be fine on USB2
2.uninstall web cam from devmanager, allow system to to refresh(right click - uninstall cam, right click on top line - scan for hardware changes)

not sure if this cam would require any specific drivers, more like Win got confused or cable/port issue

The more blow by blow account would be very much like 'I did everything. Nothing happened.' " Nothing " being the operative, here! No Sounds?!

DM Finds the thing. When I rip the usb plug out, it drops off my screen too. Plug back? DM sees it again. I just happen to have never again seen myself Through it. It's Weird!

And then, there's my Actual camera, look? And that Stylus thing. That did exactly the same thing on me. It's doing my head in. WTH am I Missing???

Maybe it's 'just' a quite legitimate, chance in a million Hardware fault? I don't know, mate. Either of the first pair of usb holes let my mouse work in them. Yet, alternate mouse with cam? Cam'll mess up where mouse just worked. It's just not making sense.

I sense computer shopping, in my near future. Yes?

Can you search for the camera app? Just search. I am pretty sure it's on win 10 as well....

Yes, Own both Win 10 and Win 11 machines I can confirm Camera is in both editions

🤸‍♂️ Unbelievable!!! I'd only ~ Somehow! ~ managed to Remove bloody " Camera "!!! 😮 It was @kippy suggesting I run the Search. System couldn't find it. Was brilliantly unjudgemental though. Just sort of showed me a dl link; 'This what ye looking for?'

That sent me on a goose chase, after the Microphone! Great one, this, lads! Spent the morning, battering my head against it. Making various clips. Getting more wound up. Till I Played one of the clips?

I couldn't Believe how the cam / mike had picked up the background sounds, in this room. Now, it was playing them back to me, through my sound bar, with the volume cranked up? I can Hear it all! Being so deaf, my normal ears can't catch the real level. Weird. And I'm waffling! 🤐

Go out to your friendly Tesco / Dunnes Stores / Newsagent and maybe buy a copy of Computer Active magazine. ( it's sister magazine Web Advisor which I would prefer to you is out of print a few years )

Sounds like you've accidentally blocked the camera permissions. Happens to the best of us.

If you're on Firefox, go to your settings, find the Permissions section, and make sure your camera is enabled for the site you're using. You might also want to clear your cache or restart Firefox just in case.

If that doesn't work, I was lucky to find the Sight Bulb phone number, and they were really helpful. You can give them a call or shoot them an email for more help.
