I have been offered a CS job at the entry pay scale of just under 30k.

I am currently on 40k in the job I'm now in.

Is it worth leaving my role for a 10k pay cut, is civil service really worth that or would you say it would take a long time to build myself up to 40k

What are your future earnings likely to be in your current job (or similar private industry if you happen to change jobs). What would your future earnings be in the CS. What will your CS pension be and how much are the contributions. How much would you have to put into AVCs in a private job to match what you'd get in CS pension, bearing in mind that they're not as gold plated as they were. Crunch the numbers. I'm having to fire a huge amount into avcs now as I didn't pay much attention to pension stuff earlier....
