    hello all

I'm terrified my GP will take me off my medication, I'm currently on an anti-depressant and a sleeping tablet which I need to operate as a person, I sent in a prescription online to my GP for 6 months' worth of medication, but the GP only gave me 3 months. I am terrified I am going to get a phone call now saying we are taking you off Medication, how do I explain to my GP I need this Medication

wouldn't worry too much , the six monthly scripts were generally issued during COVID , my GP has me down to a monthly for one of my meds and the rest are back on three monthly ,

In general its only the benzos are the only ones they worry about , and even then they would have to reduce the dose over time ,

I don't know how true it is but I think ? they are paid by script so they make more from issuing more of them

Agreed with poster above, post covid I'm back to a script every three months, request online with no drama

GPs are not paid by the script for medical card or GPCard patients, but do - usually - charge per prescription for private patients

One reason that giving 6 month scripts may be less given is that six month scripts are now basically 1 year scripts on pharmacist discretion. For things that need any level of ongoing monitoring, this may not be suitable.

I wouldn't stress too much OP. Maybe the GP needs to see you every 3 months to see how the meds are working. I'm on a prescription for life and it's done in 6 month intervals because I need to see a consultant evry 6 months to see how things are going. When I was seeing the consultant every 3 months I got a 3 month prescription. It could be just a precaution. The stuff I'm on is also an anti depressant but I take it as an anti seizure medication but I have to check in every 3 months because it has rare but mad side effects.
