No more international breaks till March thank ****, so sloppy and flat again. Hook nunez at HT done absolutely nothing

The penalty I think was probably outside, but there was nothing to show it definitely was. The one replay that showed his foot close to the line meant he could not overturn. If he had given the foul as outside, was there enough to conclusively say it was inside?

As evidenced today, hes very poor and not the first time.

We've been fairly dogshit. So many errors. I fully expect them to get the bollocking they deserve.

Konate slow? Are your eyes working. He's a lot of things (rash, awkward looking, hands on) but he's not slow.

Ropey performance all around, lucky goal and played dice a few times with risky tackles, eventually lost and conceded that penalty. Another big halftime here for Arne.

I feel for him tho, he has alot on his mind worrying about when his video stating how much he hates Liverpool will come out! I'd say alot of the refs are worried about this, I'm only half joking 🙄

At least we have a good bench today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 298 ✭✭anplaya27

He literally does all this in every game he plays in. So slow in build up. Puts his hands on a player every time they get past him, counted 3 in this game, including the yellow and the peno appeal that was turned down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,140 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Agreed. Foot (toe at least) looks on the line.

That is not conclusive though, you think his foot is on the line. I have no problem with the decision though, its a little frustrating that we got one of those where the wrong decision was probably made but the video we have was not enough to overturn it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 298 ✭✭anplaya27

He's like that in in most games. Just today more apparent as other defenders arent playing well.

Not a great half. Lots of stupid unnecessary cards. Pot shots from outside the box but then Southampton are very deep.

The penalty.....The line for the box belongs to the penalty area according to sky. So if it happens on the line it's deemed a penalty. Don't think you could argue with it as that passage of play was laughable.

Once the referee gave it as inside, it was a penalty. Nothing to show conclusively that it's not.

Poor decision from VVD, but Robertson's attempt at the defending was mad. IMO, it shows he's conscious of having less pace. The logical thing was to jockey backwards, keep him as away from goal as possible, and make the attacker make a decision. The lunge in was amateurish.

1-1 is a fair reflection of the first half. Need to up it. They simply cannot let this opportunity at an 8-point lead slip.

The Pen was 50/50, i have no complaints really.

We just need to be better, we're playing the team bottom of the league.

Moving on, Liverpool were gifted a goal, you might say the same for Southampton - Kelleher was unlucky with the follow up too.

I agree with Keane that Lallana is lucky to be still on the pitch, and other characters would have been sent off.

I'd be worried that the cutting-edge is not there for Liverpool Today, they need to obviously come out in the second half and get at Southampton early but they do need to be wary off the counter-attack threat,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,892 ✭✭✭Enzokk

Good to have some back and forth at least on the thread, the last one was dying a slow death.

I have just seen the Lallana tackle, could have been a red as it was one of those "orange" card ones. Then the penalty was so close as well and that went against us, add in the saved penalty that breaks into the path of the penalty taker, we have been a little unlucky with those situations that can turn a game.

In all the pen talk etc, we are forgetting something, as are the "pundits"......

The ref should have been sent to the monitor, especially for a yes or no decision, and its his call that decided it. VAR just backed him. Side angle suggests outside, rear view inconclusive.

Over now anyway. Need to show huge improvement in the 2nd half.

Terrible,mo and darwin may aswell be at home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,274 ✭✭✭shamrock55

Konate is a fine player in fairness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,892 ✭✭✭Enzokk

Cannot send him to the monitor for that type of call, it is either in or not. Once they decided they could not say with 100% certainty it was outside it was always going to stay a penalty. We were unlucky with that one in the sense the referee gave the penalty instead of a foul outside of the box. It was a foul though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,183 ✭✭✭ConcertKing

Gakpo should be hooked for not passing to Nunez directly after Southamptons equalizer.Absolute disgraceful decision making and beyond selfish!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,181 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

The foul has already happened at that point. He's halfway down. It should be the first point of contact, similar to how timing is judged for offside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,966 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Was thinking Konate would be very lucky to see the second half, then VVD and Robbo combine to give a goal away. Frustrating. But Robbo’s mistake was by far the worst. You can’t give away a pen when the attacker is going away from goal. Stay on his feet and the most Soton get is a corner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 298 ✭✭anplaya27

Got a yellow for holding a player back who had beaten him for pace so yeah slow in that instance. Well see how the second half goes.

    Of course they can.

Nobody is disputing its a foul, but even the delayed reaction to giving the pen is telling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

It's not though if the foul continues into the box. Anyways I am not trying to wind anyone up. I am hoping for a Liverpool win but in that whole passage they got what they deserved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,181 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Yes a truly terrible player. So bad that he's captain for the second best team in the fifa world rankings. Awful altogether.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,665 ✭✭✭mormank

Lads they're actually just making it up as they go and say whatever sounds right to give whatever decision they want to give. Haven't you heard the line "No pen as the initial contact was outside the box" uttered as an excuse for not giving a pen before cos I know I have, now they say the opposite. It's so corrupt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 298 ✭✭anplaya27

You wouldnt think it today going by his performance so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,211 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Decent start. Lets keep this tempo

Ah yea fair enough but he's been great this season in all fairness

Most folk don't form an opinion on a player based on 45 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,211 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Think that big lad's body has done him in there. Minimal contact from the carded Gapko

Need two stretchers to get him off

That was a soft yellow for Cody. The chap is big and went down like a giant sequoia but Gakpo barely touched him.
