if they can just get through the next 3 games, they’re into a nice rest period and will have Saka and Martinelli back. Still a big threat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,293 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

I doubt we see Saka until April at least

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,293 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

We win tomorrow they're 16 points behind ffs. City lost only last game out 5 1 to Arsenal. They aren't challenging for the league, I'd be surprised if they hit 80 points this year

They actually already have a light schedule which really mitigates some of their recent injuries. They just returned from a sun trip in Dubai, played today against the 2nd worse defence in the league and will be favourites to win at home after a week off vs a poor West Ham team. Forest away in their only tricky game since city 2nd Feb who they got outta way just in time before new signings came in or got some game time to get up to speed.

Wolves a home tomorrow is a game we simply have to win tomorrow and hopefully we will. Much more concerned about the Villa away game being brought forward . Instead of a vital week break before City we are forced to push player fitness to the max with another tough away game in a week so we’ll be as tired as City come Sunday week and have to play against vs Newcastle 3 days later . City unfortunately looks a different proposition to the team that lost 5-1 with Gonazlez /Mamoush so I hope I’m wrong but see real threat of dropped points in next week.

City have shown they can go on runs that could in theory mean they could challenge. Would you have guessed they'd beat Newcastle 4 nil on recent form? I certainly didn't. Things change quickly in football but as I said the next 4 games will decide our season.

There's plenty of twists and turns left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,293 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

So City will go on a run because they've been impressive for one game, lost at home mid week and got hammered by Arsenal just before that. I'm nervous for the game against them but not remotely about them challenging for the title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,363 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

City won't come within 10 points of the title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,648 ✭✭✭893bet

the only say city will have in the title is the match against Liverpool. Thats its.
Still on a knife edge but ours to lose.

    Next three weeks define it.

It's comical to think that City are in the title race, Even most 'Neutrals' think that in fairness

    100%

    But it'll never change, sadly

And it's not just fans, it's the managers too. I don't bring this up because you're Arsenal, but because I think it's the most obvious example to our fans. When VAR royally screwed up calling that Diaz offside against Spurs, Arteta said....

"I think they are trying to make the best decisions, they are trying to protect the game, they are trying to get as much support and be ruthless when they need to be.

"At some point as well we need to give support and understand that mistakes happen. We’ve made mistakes as well and if the pressure is so much then it’s very difficult to manage."

Soon after you had the crazy goal by Newcastle that could have been disallowed three ways, and he went mental. Again, not bringing this up as an anti-Arsenal thing, he wasn't the only one. We're not the only one on the recieving end. But when managers freak they're on their own, they're "cracking up etc", there's no solidarity at all.

It's like the overload of matches, individuals complain but no-one bands together. Klopp was ridiculed for complaining about the 1230 kick offs, but it's in everyone's interests to sort that

    But it'll always be... sadly

Even for City to hit 80 points they'd need to win 12 more games. They've 13 games left.

A more realistic scenario is City getting mid 70 points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 991 ✭✭✭patsy sally

I still have the habit of not worrying about what other teams are doing, just our results matter and can only control what we are doing hopefully get the 3 points today and go again during the week,it's a tough run of games but that's part of trying to win a league title no team is going too make anything easy no Matter who it is,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,998 ✭✭✭kingshankly

Jesus folks city are not in a title race will you give your heads a wobble 🙈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,198 ✭✭✭jones

Ok I'm obviously suffering with PTSD from city being the machine of previous years but yes this team is not that. To clarify what I meant above was that I think city will have a big say in the title race and I've no doubt they'll finish 3rd.

We just need to win today to keep the pressure on arsenal and then take the next 3 games as they come.

expecting nothing less than an emphatic win today 💪

Please god we arnt looking at posts saying “5 points clear you would have took that at the start of the year” 🤮

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,155 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Or worse,"4 points clear, you would of taken that at the start of the season"......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,222 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

The thing is there's not one fan in the world who wouldn't have been happy with being 5 points clear at this stage if you asked them before a ball was kicked. It's been an excellent season so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,260 ✭✭✭✭noodler

What I wouldn't give for an early goal. never in doubt kind of win.

We had that against Ipswich at home but they felt few and fat between this season.

Was hoping Slot's ban would be gotten out of the way today tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,260 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I hope we are 7 points clear again by 4pm but I don't know what the benefit of your doom and gloom mindset would be if it doesn't happen.

It's just life, you'll have to get up and go at it the next morning even if it doesn't go your way today. Better to do that looking at the (unequivocal) positives than the negatives.

We're really due one of them. I know at this stage, results is all that matter. But after the scenes on Wednesday, we need to lay down a marker today. If we stumble along for 90 minutes, it's only going to give encouragement to Villa and City. It's doesn't take much for mindsets to shift in this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,753 ✭✭✭brevity

yea, I think we need a statement win here

I don't think I'd be starting Jota. The fecker has me conditioned to think he'll just break down again. Let him come on with 20/30 minutes left for the rest of the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,541 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

Jota will probably break down regardless of starting or coming on as a sub.

    Loving that team today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,481 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Big performance here will do us the world of good. But 3pts any which way is the minimum.

Expect an early goal. Probably for Wolves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭DJIMI TRARORE

1st half hattrick and take him off on the hour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,336 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Aside from Diaz being in for Gakpo, it's probably our strongest team at the moment. (Maybe a debate to be had for Tsimi over Robbo, but much of a muchness)

An early sign of Trent maybe having one of his unfocused days there… a simple pass pretty miscued.

Ali should've still been able to lump it upfield, but didn't need to be put in that position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,717 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Poor backpass from Trent but I still think Ali made a mess of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,937 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Hopefully Diaz is better back on the left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,336 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

He's not been great on the left this season either… was really poor there just last week against Plymouth. Though even out of form he should really be able to get something from running at Matt Doherty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,937 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Wolves with the low block out. Might need to be patient today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,260 ✭✭✭✭noodler

He refuses to go on the outside of anybody.

Frustrating as when he cuts back in, his short passes are poor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,717 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Touch wood but I've always felt Semedo was a brutal defender too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,717 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Yeah that one a moment ago to Szobo was an easy pass that he played short and could've set Wolves on the counter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,363 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Oh great, an ultra low block. Love looking at matches like this!

    Diaz

    Fair play boss

Took one there to get the goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,570 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Is that Diaz first goal of 2025!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,937 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

    Diaz bundles in a goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,717 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

    Thats more like it!

All credit to Jota for some incredible centre forward hold up play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,198 ✭✭✭jones

That's a gas "finish". Brilliant we needed to score first

    about time he did something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,336 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Wahey! Cracker of a finish from Diaz 😋

Did the business though, followed up and made sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,260 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Jota completely made that.

Great turn, played the ball perfectly to cut people out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 991 ✭✭✭patsy sally

    Funny finish
