Just curious, when can we expect positive news on the contract front assuming 1 or 2 are staying, time is ticking and when should we get really worried, surely if we win league and hopefully champions league they won't want to leave

Understand Dean Huijsen has release clause into his contract valid from this summer. Told Chelsea really appreciate Huijsen and he’s high on the list, Bayern called to be informed. Bournemouth are unbeaten since Huijsen entered in the starting XI, with 8 clean sheets.

    Spotted on Reddit.

There could be a raid on Bournemouth in the summer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,994 ✭✭✭Ken Tucky

Yeah, he's a big lad too.

The age profile of the Bournemouth back line yesterday was mad. Lewis Cook is the oldest at 27. The next oldest is 22..

    That's seriously impressive from them

Would be great to have a few astute signings set us for next season.

Someone in the Liverpool Reddit said that the Bournemouth squad was in part due to Hughes so despite the current tumbleweeds perhaps there will be light at the end of the tunnel

near exact numbers in points and goals in compared to the same time last year only difference this year is Man City not breathing down our necks

Valencia (who have our keeper on loan) conceded 7 tonight to Barcelona. From 11 shots on target. Oof

Whilst this season may end extremely successfully there’s no doubt a busy summer window is required and as follows

LB signing and a decision on one of Tsimikas and Robertson future as current iterations aren’t good enough but one would be good enough as back up/rotation

RB Trent will leave on a free, Bradley is a good player now with plenty of scope for improvements, decision on wether he is now our new starting RB or do we sign another and Bradley remains back up/rotation.

Centre back- no issues with Van Dijk (who I think will stay) and Konate being the main partnership, but will Gomez fancy a move again as he did last summer? Quansah has had a rough season, plenty of potential there though.

Midfield- This is fine bar ideally a similar style player back up to Gravenberch, Endo is a fine squad player but there’s no denying Slot doesn’t sees Endo as competition for Grav, he is only a sub/ started in cups, Grav will be run into the ground by the end of the season.

Wingers- Gakpo is quietly having an incredible season on the left and has usurped Diaz there, him and Diaz for LW is great options, but I feel if a big offer came for Diaz we might consider it.

Salah I think will also stay and hopefully keeps up his performances again next season. Chiesa is finally starting to eek his way into the team, hopefully we will be happy to stay next year and gain more game time.

Strikers- This is becoming a big issue, Nunez has had plenty opportunities but it just really isn’t happening, might be a good time to shake hands and part ways.

Jota is a fabulous player but I wouldn’t even rely on him to play a half season worth of football so a signing is required here IMO, Diaz done well up front against Leverkusen. It has flattered to deceive in that position since.

Bacjetic might return as back up for Gravenberch? But IMO three signing minimum are required a LB a RB and a striker preferably all starting quality.

    Potential leavings

    Kelleher (certainly)

    Trent (certainly)

    One of Tsimikas or Robertson

    Morton

    Nunez

Maybe Gomez? But would hate to see it.

The likes of Gomez/Elliott/Endo are actually very essential for us as they’re very versatile and reliable for us, we need them to all stay .

Does terribly for the third, the rest aren't too bad but he does seem quite passive. Doesn't even dive for most of them

Do we know when Jota is expected back?? What's the injury this time??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭riddles

it concerns me a lot how Diaz keeps starting - it’s like the management are waiting for an ad hoc goal or assist to say yes that’s why. Both he and Nunez have to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,676 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Not what I wanted to see on a Monday morning, the official PL website is using Doku on MacAllister as their example of what constitutes a high foot challenge despite this not being given as a foul 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,676 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Yeah he'll be back about 3 days before his next injury.

No actual update yet, all we know is that "he felt something" at Forest and it's been 2 weeks since then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,912 ✭✭✭Enzokk

Am I imagining it or were we very frantic last year? I cannot remember all the matches in detail but looking back at the results we already had 6 matches out of the 22 we had to come back from being behind to win or draw. That was never, in hindsight, going to be sustainable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Last season was a funny one. We were all 3 elements within the same half of football, scintillatingly good, absolutely trash, or just average!

The 4-2 Newcastle game was a real synopses of what we were at, we could have had 10, we played some of the best attacking football of Klopps reign, yet Newcastle were still in it with 5 to go until Salah put away a peno to make it 4-2. We were playing well but we were never convincing at the back and were having too many let-offs that it was bound to catch up.

I don't think too many on here really believed it was sustainable either and we were kind of waiting for things to turn. We were picking up way too many injuries and every game seemed to be played at hectic pace, so you were kind of always waiting for the next body to breakdown. We never had a period, like the last 10 days for example, where we just went out and got the job done without lads having to break sweat.

    I saw that stat

53 points now versus 51 last season.

It feels like a lot more alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

And we had a 5 point lead as opposed to the 6 we have over Arsenal now. They would go onto finish 8 points clear of us.

I know this season is slightly different as Arsenal seem to be suffering with more injuries and the likes, but the fact the 99% of pundits and media outlets reckon that its a done deal is quite bizarre. Considering less than 12 months ago we squandered a very similar position to the same chasing opposition.

That Newcastle one set the record for highest ever xG in a single PL game

We had 34 shots for an accumulated xG of 7.27 in that game but only scored 4!

For reference the next highest ever in a PL game was City's 5.87 xG in their 8-0 win against Watford.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

It was a crazy game, we should have been 5 or 6 clear with comfort. But that was our biggest issue last season, we kept keeping teams in games by not taking chances, and then coughing up chances at the other end, it was bound to catch up on us, as we weren't solid enough at the back to see out those slim leads if we had one.

The UTD FA cup game is another sore one, should have easily been 3 up and we contrived to lose it!

    …..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

We butcher 2 situations where we had a 4 on 2 and then a 5 on 2 when we were 2-1 up. Salah also hit the post from a 1on1 after half time which should have put the game to bed.

We kept so many teams in games last seasons by missing sitters and butchering the most basis of chances, Diaz was at a fault quite a lot. where we should have been way more comfortable and inevitable we threw games away as an obvious consequence on more than one occasions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,265 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Just reading the phrases "4 on 2" and "5 on 2" gives me PTSD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭Dano650

Stats don't lie. McTominay had a great chance to put United 2 up when he fired a shot straight at Kelleher. Rashford missed 2 chances. One he definitely should have scored. Two of Liverpools goals were deflections.. Game could have finished 6 all

It's wild how much time there is between the two legs of the EFL Cup semi final… a month, and 7 other matches, between the first and second legs is mad like…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,241 ✭✭✭✭noodler

It's worked out amazingly well for us.

Spurs have never been this low since I've been a fan.

It's at the stage in think we could rest 2 or 3 and I'd still expect us to get past them. Obviously that could fail but it certainly seems like a more measured risk than it was a month ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 509 ✭✭✭CONSI

No way Slot rests players for it, in the end of the day its a semi final, chance to get to a final and maybe a trophy in his first season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,187 ✭✭✭jones

Spurs are a basket case at the moment but they'll be giving everything for the cup now as they basically have nothing else. I wouldn't be too complacent about how up for it they'll be. Spurs have made a living of beating City in these kind of circumstances when form would suggest they'll get hammered and they consistently got results again City in their pomp.

I wouldn't be resting anyone for the game (not that i think Slott will anyway he seems like Klopp in that the first 11 basically starts every game when fit - not something i agree with but he's doing alright so far :-) )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,498 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

It's 100k prize money for winning the competition,,2.1 million for winning a match in the champions League,,I know it's nice to have silver ware ,I just hope we don't get any injuries that will catch up with us,we need to concentrate on the league and champions League.

Don't mean this as an attack on yourself but we're lost as fans if we're talking about prize money over trophies.

It's not just "nice to have silverware" it's the entire goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,697 ✭✭✭mormank

And the entire point of trying to earn more money would be for what exactly?? To try win trophies? 🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,241 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Id say you right.

Two weeks ago I was definitely against any wholesale changes. and still am, but Spurs have gotten even worse now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,676 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

If Spurs are as easy to beat as we may be assuming then we can start strong and bench players once the game is put to bed.

I'd rather do that than go in resting players to a game we're 1-0 down in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,801 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

It is being played on the 1st available midweek since the 1st legs that's the crazy thing

I wouldn’t turn my nose up at any trophy but we’re in a position where we have to prioritise competitions, which should be the league and CL obviously. I would be fine with a second string team/players coming back from injury playing in the league and FA cups.

Managing minutes in legs will be incredibly important down the stretch, I’d hate to see us fall over trying to chase everything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭mightyreds

I don't see an issue with a full squad against spurs we have a week and a half to rest the first 11 after that before Everton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,275 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Given that we're only 2 games away from potential silverware in the league Cup, there's no sense in throwing that. The merits of the FA cup are probably debatable though.

The likes of Kelleher, Stephenson (having an excellent loan spell in the SPL, Tsimikas, Morton, Endo, Diaz and Nunez (along with the likes of Phillips and Williams being frees) should earn us a decent wedge when it comes to sales in the summer.

I'd expect the likes of Doak and Bajcetic would also attract decent bids aswell, although i'd like to see another loan for both next year to see what their ceiling is. I expect loans aswell for Harvey Davies, Isaac Mabaya, Ramsey again, the left backs Norris, Scanlon, Beck and Chambers, James McConnell and Lewis Koumas, Kaide Gordon, Jayden Danns and who knows maybe even Quansah. The star trio of the academy seem to be Nallo at CB, Nyoni in midfield and Ngumoha as an attaker.

Provided we keep TAA, VVD and Salah (big if, but still hopeful), we need to sign a LB/LCB, a DM to compete with Gravenberch, a wide man and a striker (to essentially replace Nunez and Diaz if the latter won't sign a new deal).

Hato of Ajax would be good option for the left sided hybrid defender spot, I still like Adam Wharton even though hes not as prominent this season (the drop in hype might help the price), he has a lovely left foot and would give balance, wouldn't expect immediate starts either, would be good foil for/alternative to Gravenberch. The striker and winger are more complex. I know hes not popular, but absolutely love watching Gordon from Newcastle. I've yet to see another attacker this season give us as much bother as he did at St James this season. His pace, pressing and added goal threat would make him the ideal replacement for Diaz, and he is versatile too, plays on either wing or through the middle.

Up front, it would be too much to ask to get Isak out of Newcastle, so maybe someone like Benjamin Sesko or Joao Pedro would be a good bet to replace Nunez.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,388 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Hato would be an amazing signing .

If the rumours are true, Ajax will be open to offers for some of their players after their Europa League game against Galatasaray on Thursday.

I think I'd prefer Hujisn (the Bournemouth chap).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,912 ✭✭✭Enzokk

I don't think they are easy to beat as no team really is, but if we perform well on the night we should be able to beat them comfortably. They can make it difficult for us on the night and make us perform worse than we have and have a chance.

I wonder what they bayern fans make of graverberch now. Slot has really turned him into a monster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭GiftofGab

Slot has really improved our whole midfield and saved the club a fortune. We were willing to splash big for a no.6 for years. Now we could possibly do with a backup no.6 but it's not a priority for the club.

The next edition of AFCON will take place between December 21, 2025 and January 18, 2026 and be hosted by Morocco.

I wonder is this a point of contention in Salahs contract negotiations
