I don't know dude, my feeling is that hes been stuck behind midfield cars with (if he is a highly rated driver) poorer drivers for laps on end making no progress and making some pretty big errors.

If he "was" good, he's not showing any signs of it now.

I'm not saying Checo should be beating Max as I don't think and any driver on the grid beats him over the season in equal cars. Checo was very good and should be well able to put that RedBull 6th or 7th on the grid but he's completely lose it, there was some good performances through out the season but there was too many terrible qualifying results and then making no progress in the race

Nobody is expecting Perez to beat Max but what they are expecting is him to be right behind him. How many races has he been 8-10 places behind Max? Plenty and thats nowhere near good enough. When Schumacher was running away with it Rubens was generally pretty close to him.

thought Hamilton did well shows what he can do with a quick car under him ham vs leclerc is going to be fun. unfortunate that perez can't do the same.

Not sure finishing the best part of 10 seconds behind Russell, who wasn't pushing for most of the race, is all that much to write home about. The Merc was the fastest car by a country mile all weekend so the fact that Hamilton made work out of finishing second isn't that great an achievement. I'll be amazed if Leclerc doesn't destroy him next year.

Perez if kept will just be trudging around beside Stroll and the not Antonelli Rookies.

@quokula defending Perez in detail while nitpicking at Hamilton within a few posts of each other!

Re Perez, I think most people who have been watching for a number of years know that Perez was very good driver. Also, the fact the Red Bull has been heavily geared to Verstappen has been reported by various experts and the field closing is a given.

All fair points and mitigating circumstances but there have been struggles in sections of all his Red Bull years and he’s work through them to a far more acceptable degree. in many ways, his flaws from previous years have just gotten worse with quali and racing errors, some of which have an air of desperation. I guess part of being a good driver is adapting and he seems to have lost some of that and his confidence seems shot.

He could probably still do a decent job in a midfield car but his form this year would make you think his best days are behind him and (finances aside) it’s more worthwhile looking elsewhere.

Re Hamilton, he’s really lacked consistency over the last few seasons but I think there are many a bit too eager to write him off. Quali is so crucial unless you have a dominant car. LeClerc will have the better of him there just like Russell had so definitely see LeClerc beating him, maybe comfortably, but Hamilton having a good season if Ferrari delivers a good car. Will be interesting if we get to a situation with team orders coming into it. Lewis, it’s Fred

It's a strange one with Hamilton, i have literally no idea what to expect from him regardless of how quick the Ferrari may, or may not be.

Is it that he is a spent force and that time is catching up on him? Who knows. He's certainly not slow, but i'd be concerned about his Saturday performances.

I hope he performs well and we see exactly where both LeClerc and Lewis are at. If LeClerc beats him comfortably next season, you'd suspect his days are numbered

I think he badly wants that eighth championship to put him alone at the top. But at the same time, he seems disinterested if the car isn't performing and he has to fight it out with the midfield runners. That may be why he's gone to Ferrari. They've been consistent enough and he probably sees a better chance of getting that elusive number 8 with them. When he had the right car in LV, he absolutely fought for every place he gained.

Didn't Toto say he'd have got rid of Hamilton for next season regardless of his move? Now i haven't seen the qoute first hand, thought i heard one of the commentators referance it at the weekend, but if true, although there may be some bitterness still, it is fairly damning.

There are so many stars that need to align for him to become WC yet again that it is much more unlikely than it is likely. Unless of course, Ferrari produce an absolute rocket for the start of the new regs in 2026

I'd discount it by half for bitterness, especially as age was alluded to. The other half would be the disinterest I mentioned. He can be very whiny if things aren't going his way and I'd say that gives the engineers a pain in the butt.

A change of team would suit both of them I'd say. Ferrari will be bending over backwards to keep him happy which will feed his ego I'm sure.

Oh how it would be amusing if the Mercs produce something that is quicker than the Ferrari's next season which although unlikely based on the last couple of years, it is not beyond them, obviously.

Anyway, as long as there is at least a couple of cars quicker than McClaren next year, i'll be happy
