Hamilton taking nearly a second a lap out of Russell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Yeah you'd have to think he can, once the tyres work for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,571 ✭✭✭Harika

    In striking distance: 10 laps

    Laps remaining : 9

Graphics department have some work to do

Not the best race, but plenty happening the whole race so all in fairly decent watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

I don't believe the simulation either regarding Sainz

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Max the 1 place ahead of Norris that he needs. 4 laps to go to be confirmed as 4 time World Champion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Interesting that Norris could pit to try for a fastest lap to technically keep the championship alive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Scrap that, it's just to minimise the damage to the team regarding Ferrari's point haul today.

Max Verstappen you are the world champion, the world champion.😁

Hell of an achievement, four on the bounce. Can anyone stop this kid?? Have to say I enjoyed this season more than any since 2021. 22/23 were utter pain, but at least this year there was a good scrap for the title, a good few different race winners, and a worthy champ at the end. Hopefully 25 continues in that same way…

4 in a row for Max! A very mature drive from him today to just focus on the job in hand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,543 ✭✭✭sioda

And Max is like us all pressing random buttons in a new car 😂😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,504 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

that was class, "ohhh look, i can close the door with this button", "hey, a tray for my bottle"…

Max's maturity has been amazing to watch grow over the last few years. He's so far ahead of his rivals on that front.

They are dragging the arse out of this podium

Dear Lord Danica with more useless questions. Thankfully balanced out by having Button there too.

Of the 555 points Red Bull currently have, 403 have come from Max. What an absolute embarrassment for Perez and Red Bull. They really do have a dilemma with that second seat, Perez just can’t get a handle on the car, Lawson only average the last few races and Yuki seems permanently out of favour. Colapinto way too inexperienced to put in the car, even if they wanted to pay the 20 million to release him from Williams (although maybe that price will have gone down with all the crashing he’s doing). They should have signed Sainz when he was available and just deal with any issues between Sainz snr and Jos. Max and Carlos would be a formidable pairing. The only silver lining I can see for the team is they’ll get more wind tunnel time next year by coming 3rd in the constructors.
Going to be a great season next year it looks like.

some LeClerc radio conversations appearing on Reddit

Charles will need that attitude next year, being a nice guy only gets you so far.

Yeah that always gets a mention.

Some guy bitching about Max because he didn't congratulate George in his post race interview showing a lack of class compared to Hamilton who congratulated Max.

One reply of 'well maybe Hamilton can be the World Congratulating Champion' was a good one.

    😂

    good one

Tsunoda finishing ahead of Perez for the second race in a row.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,109 ✭✭✭thefa

Only saw the YouTube highlights. It looked like Sainz overtook him when his tyres were wrecked and then when he was on an out lap. Did something else happen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,751 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I can't see Perez in that RB next year. It makes zero sense. He isn't able to help Max strategically and is of no use helping the team in the Constructors Championship.

Even if Horner is happy with a completely unhelpful in anyway second driver why not do a Mercedes and throw a rookie Hadjar in. Hadjar might improve and become an asset whereas Perez is a liability and not going to improve.

he must be bringing a wad of cash to the team.

can't think of any other reason…

    pee pictures?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,076 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

I noticed that marshalls were blowing whistles as cars were entering (and maybe leaving, but not so clear) the pits. Never noticed this before. Is this a new thing or just particular to Las Vegas (although I don't remember it from last year's race either)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Max is quick off the track too.

Zak Brown congratulated him as he was being interviewed by Sky. I think Brown said something along the lines of we pushed you all the way to which Max responded "You said before that I could only win it in the fastest car".

Also my favourite of the weekend….

But is Ferrari really the favorite for the Las Vegas GP? Frederic Vasseur chose to sidestep the question with an ironic response. “Your car is always faster on Sundays,” remarked the journalist while discussing the SF-24’s race pace.

“Yes, but we’re racing on Saturday,” immediately replied the Ferrari Team Principal, prompting laughter from everyone.

How did Sainz get away with that pit entry?

Russell was miles ahead today. He was cruising around at the end. There seems to be a pattern of the lead car getting away from everyone else. Clean air makes such a big difference for the tyres.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,746 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

The whistle has been there for as long as I can remember, presume it’s an extra warning that a car is entering the pit lane.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,746 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Was sure he was going to get a penalty for that, they treated it as a track limits violation which seems like a mistake to me. Supposed to be a slam dunk penalty just like crossing the white line on pit exit - it’s bloody dangerous to be allowing that when other cars are flying past that section at speed. They’ll need to clarify it going forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,076 ✭✭✭CMOTDibbler

The World Congratulating Champion looked like he didn't want to talk to his team mate in the car after the race, let alone congratulate him. Looked really awkward the way he was sitting well forward of George and Carlos and pretty much ignoring them, but especially George.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Indeed, he also made a comment in his interview that the race would have been "a breeze" if he's have qualified better. That's the problem though Lewis. Your Saturday speed is gone. Charles will have you for lunch next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,520 ✭✭✭Killinator

To be fair, the 2 other lads got into the car before him and there wasn't much room for him to sit back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,786 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

    I don't think so.

I think if they are close in quali, le clerc is likely make more mistakes when pressure is on.

But George has destroyed him this year, and LeClerc is a better qualifier than George, although i do expect Lewis to have a bounce in performance, i can't see him beating Le Clerc next year.

The first 6/7 races or so next season i think are crucial for Lewis in terms of his ambitions of ever winning another world title

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,786 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

I'm no hamilton fan but I don't think you can judge anything on this season seeing as Hamilton was on his way out. He was excluded from technical meetings about future development and God knows what else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

In fairness to him, he would have beaten George handy enough if he'd have qualified anywhere near the front imo. I'll be just as interested to see how George does against the rookie next season

Delighted Max got it done today - what a driver.

    Enjoyable enough race.

Simply Ridiculous that Sainz didn't get a penalty for the pit entry - zero logic altogether.

Well done to Max a 4 time World Champion and well done to George on winning the race. Not the most exciting of races.

Perez needs to go. Just not good enough.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

4x world champ, just solidifying his place at the top of the grid right now. He is a step above the lot of them right now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,897 ✭✭✭blackbox

I watched it on Channel 4.

A decent enough race (as night races go), but did anyone else think the camerawork / production was really poor?

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,658 ✭✭✭✭antodeco

I noticed that earlier on. Alot of battles happening on either rising the most stupid camera angles or just not following the battles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,354 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

It's at the stage where it's just embarrassing now that you've one drive winning the championship and the second driver is struggling to overtake the midfield teams. Checo needs to be got rid of after Abu Dhabi, he cost them the constructors and they just can't rely on him

Their car was nowhere near good enough to compete for the constructors championship. It's worth looking back, in 2020 Max won multiple races and got about double the points of any non-Mercedes driver (who were effectively a different formula to the rest of the field), but his teammate finished 7th in the championship. In 2019 the same thing, Max the only driver really getting close to Mercedes while his teammate was down in 7th. In 2020 Perez managed to actually finish the championship ahead of the second Red Bull in his Force India.

There's a clear trend that no driver that gets put in equal machinery to Max can get anywhere remotely near him. Perez is not an outlier here - in fact when you look at the numbers in terms of seconds rather than positions he's been closer to Max than either Alex or Pierre were on average. The difference is that the field is much more competitive now - in 2020 you could be half a minute behind Max and potentially still be 4th behind him and the Mercs, but today if you're half a minute behind that puts you down and out of the points.

Sergio has beaten every teammate he's had other than Button and Verstappen - and he wasn't that far off Jenson for a very inexperienced driver coming into a new team up against a well established world champion. As much as the narrative seems to try to completely revise history, he's always been an incredibly highly rated driver and simply doesn't have the car to get the results right now. The constant hate he gets probably has it's impact on his morale too, but the same will inevitably befall anyone else who gets put in that seat.
