Hey I was wondering if someone could help me. I currently have Sky and was thinking of switching to Now TV, but can’t really understand how exactly it works despite reading their website, so was hoping someone could tell me:

    ·         Can I keep Netflix with Now?

    ·         Can I still get the free to air channels?

    ·         Can I record and live pause?

    ·         I have an LG Smart TV and it has the Now app on it – would I still need to get a Now/Amazon stick?

    ·         What is the catch - as in why is it so much cheaper than regular Sky?

    ·         What’s the deal with all these codes people are talking about?

Well the catch with it is that it's not the same as Sky TV and if you are someone who uses Sky TV and enjoys the functionality of Sky TV you will not be getting the same with Now.

You won't get Irish channels on Now, you won't get FTA UK channels on Now, you can't record on Now.

What it is really handy for is being able to get Sky subscription services like Sky Cinema and Sky Sports at a cheaper contract free price, with the added bonus of having access to the other streaming services apps on the same stick.

One reply says you can get the FTA channels while the other says you cant. I'm curious myself as to the correct version.

In my experience of Now sticks there are no FTA channels available except through the respective channels from RTE and VM players, the only other channels available are the Sky channels, about 12 of them, but you must have a Now sub. The All4 app has a live option but it doesn't work here.

The correct answer is that there are no terrestrial channels (RTE, VMTV, TG4, BBC, Channel 4) on Now.

The poster who said yes may have meant that you may be able to get the free to air channels may have meant by other means eg Saorview / Freesat.

The channel line up is mostly (though not exclusively) comprised of channels owned by Sky.

Apologies, that is what I meant.

It depends…. If your tv has a Freesat tuner you just need to connect the cable from the sky dish to the tv and you will get the UK free channels, thats what i do on my LG tv and I also use NOW on cheap codes for movies & entertainment along with Netflix .

NowTV is a streaming app like Netflix or Disney.

It's not a piece of hardware anymore just an app to stream Sky channels on any TV or device that supports the app like your LG TV.

You can't record live TV. You can pause a live broadcast on certain devices & rewind back for up to 2 hours.

    Howdee.

My Now Tv 6 month special sports deal is up in a few days. If I cancel will i be offered a new deal if I subscribe again?

Going from €30 to €70ish per month.

    Probably.

Just from memory, because it's been a while since I was that sort of user:

If you log in and take the option to cancel sports, you'll first be hit with something like 'Are you sure? You'll miss out on ………"

Take the 'Yes, I'm sure' option, and then you'll probably be offered a discount as they try tempt you to stay. The discount is sometimes substantial, and sometimes not so much.

And I say 'probably' because it doesn't happen every time. My guess is that it depends on other things like how long you've been a subscriber for, the number of discount subscriptions you've already availed of, etc. But that's just a guess!
