10% chance of rain during the sprint, could make it interesting if it does arrive.

Time to switch over from Murder She Wrote for some sprint action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Ferrari should have the pace, but McClaren will be better on the tyres. Add Max to the mix and this should be a good sprint…

So what does Lando mean by "I'm close"

    a bumpy track,

or is he wanting to pass

Lando is getting a bit unlikeable.

Does he forget his team orders performance from Hungary?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Piastri being asked to lead the DRS chain.

@Jordan 199 quite the eclectic combo!

Hoping Perez actually gets going and can catch up with Lawson to renew their clash but he’s struggling a bit with the Haas’. Past one now.

Piastri and Norris not looking completely in sync.

    Lando spitting out the dummy.

Oscar 'kept him within a second' and Lando says, I'm close....

Oscar pulla away and Lando is suddenly looking in his mirrors and complains again.

Oscar slows down and gives Lando DRS again.

Lando is getting a bit up himself.

    well overtake then Lando.

McClaren might change tactics now with Max chasing, he overtakes LeClerc

Strange how it happened pretty soon after the switch was made….

    Vsc after saving Piastri there

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 34,422 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Virtual SC means good timing for the swap indeed !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,350 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

I was really hoping Max had Piastri there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Everything timed to perfection there for McClaren, the switch, and then the green for go - where is my tinfoil hat?

    Horrible timing for Max

It was literally perfectly timed all round for them - doesn't happen often like that at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,797 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Max noted for a VSC infringement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,806 ✭✭✭quokula

Very suspicious timings with the VSC there. Left the car stopped out on track for about a lap without doing anything, giving enough time for McLaren to swap their cars. Called the VSC just at the moment Max was going to go for an overtake on Piastri. Then left it out unnecessarily long after the car was cleared, waited a very unusually long amountain of time between VSC ending message and actually ending it, then ended it at the precise moment of when Max could no longer overtake.

Any of those timings had been different by a few seconds and it could have been a very different outcome.

Cheeky enough by Max there before the VSC ended which he’s been since noted for.

We all know Norris isn't winning the drivers championship without lots of help on and off the track...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,323 ✭✭✭standardg60

High track temps seem to be the undoing of Ferrari, Leclerc told to lift and coast very early there

I think Norris isn't winning the WDC, period...

Well no surprise when you have the weasel Herbert on the stewards board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,806 ✭✭✭quokula

They don’t note something like that if they don’t already have evidence so it’ll be a slam dunk penalty. Presumably because it’s Max it’ll be 10 seconds rather than 5.

Max will probably still be feeling good, his performance was outstanding and he could have got a very good result without the very specific timing of the VSC. He should be up for a decent result tomorrow.

Lando looked incredibly weak, constantly whinging like a petulant teenager on the radio while being totally dependent on his less experienced teammate to keep slowing down to gift him DRS and eventually the win, with a dollop of help from the VSC.

Leclerc probably cooked his tyres racing in the early part of the sprint. You’d expect Ferrari to do better in the race but we will see. Sainz held back and managed and was very close to Charles at the end, maybe he was in with a shout of passing him without the VSC too but hard to tell when they got zero tv coverage.

Wow the timing of those events 😂😂😂 how convenient

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭Longing

Well Max is racing against 19 drivers , FIA ,FOM and Sky F1 and the British media. The decisions made in race control need to be investigated. Why are there no full-time paid stewards, there is corruption here the VSC should have been deployed within 30 sec or so if no full SC. But we will wait for McLaren's to swap positions, then deploy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,490 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Timings of the VSC being called and ending was very beneficial to McLaren. Will be interesting to see what penalty Max gets for the VSC infringement.

Max seems very happy with his pace, could make for a great race tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,949 ✭✭✭Captain_Crash

Not going to get bogged down in the timing of the VSC and the subsequent green flag other than saying they were very much to the benefit of McLaren. Max looked strong and without Piastri helping out, Lando could potentially have finished 3rd or even 4th.

Awful lot of whinging from Norris too. It’s one thing being on your teammates gearbox and asking to make a change, but he needed Piastri to slow down to one more than once to keep him within DRS. He was toast to LeClerc without that and maybe Max too considering he got Charles himself.

5 second time penalty imposed after the Sprint.

1 penalty point (total of 7 for the 12 month period).

The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 1 (Max Verstappen), team representativeand reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, timing, telemetry evidence.Article 56.5 states in part “All cars must also be above this minimum time when theFIA light panels change to green.” The driver was 0.63 seconds below the minimumtime at VSC End when the FIA light panels changed to green.  This indicates asporting advantage gained under VSC.  The driver explained that as he was awaitingVSC to end and he got the notification that he was below the minimum time, heattempted to correct the error but failed to do so by the point that the panels turnedgreen.  This is a breach and the standard penalty is applied for the advantage gainedat that time.The net effect of this put the driver ahead of where he was at the start of the VSCand not as a result of the car in front falling back.

Mclaren was the only team benefiting from that VSC … Ohh the humanity 🤔 with the help of the FIA ofcourse ( removes tinfoil hat)

A penalty point for that is a bit ridiculous
