Hi all,

Hopefully this is the right place. In the last year we replaced our condesing boiler with a new Viessman 050-W combi boiler. At the moment is controlled by Hive thermostats split into 2 zones, upstairs and downstairs.

I want to switch to an opentherm thermostat since our boiler supports this and so far I found Tado that seems to do the trick as I can get the TRV valves down the line to add to each room. The response I have from Tado is "

Please note that, in this case we are able to replace the receiver controlling the boiler with the tado° Wireless Receiver and the one controlling the zone valve with the tado° Wired Smart Thermostat.

I thought I could tackle this on my own but now they are recommending the above I'm starting to think I should get a professional to do it.

Do you know of anyone in East Meath that is proficient with Tado installation?

They might just be trying to see what product offerings they have in each region. I'd play along and you'll be under no obligation to contact an installer if that's the route that they are taking you, but I suspect it isn't.

The UK/Ireland Tado wireless receiver are generally relay only, basically on/off with no OpenTherm support. You might need the EU version.

Next is your current programmer near the boiler as you need to run the very short OpenTherm cable supplied with Tado to the boiler?

Initially I thought it's plug and play.. The current system is as follows:

• Upstairs Thermostat
• Downstairs thermostat
• Hive Hub (connected to the router)
• x2 Hive receivers next to the boiler for each thermostat.

My thought was I can just replace the system as is. buy x2 wireless V3+ kits and swap like for like. But they are recommending 1 wireless kit and 1 wired kit as the system is split into 2 zones by motorised valves in the small cupboard upstairs where the old hot water tank used to be.

Both hive receivers are in close proximity to the boiler.. I'd say 1.5m of wiring if routed around the wall.

U need one wired if u want two thermostats for tado..I have the system with smart TRVs so thermostat is kind of redundant. Have one wireless which just roams around in house on its stand

Didn't know that actually. Thanks for letting me know I'll investigate the nest vs Tado.
