Gone very dark here near Tralee, has the look of snow/ sleet or thunderstorm, don't have readings but only a few degrees, icy patches out the back earlier this morning.

It’s been totally dry here in South Wicklow since the storm

Still some patches of snow visible from here on the very top of lugnaquilla from the early January snow

Has to be the most interesting winter we've had in quite a while to be fair (and by "we" I mean the rest of the country, Dublin I've come to conclusion after 5 years living here has by far the most boring climate on the island).

There've been multiple snow events, multiple significant storms, multiple periods of calm high pressure with sunshine, both unusually high temperatures and clear frosty days etc. From a weather watching POV it's been an interesting couple of months since the cold spell in late November

was a nice morning here clear and cold and calm. It’s not raining heavily and is very cold and dark.

They don't call it the sunny south east for nothing! Lovely day here in Wexford Town.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,382 ✭✭✭pauldry

Yes in Sligo we had a dry few HOURS but more cold rain. The ground is constantly wet here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

33 hours of rain and some string winds due down here from tomorrow 😪

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,361 ✭✭✭appledrop

No it actually lashed rain from 3pm, we were lucky back in hotel by that stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

I figured as much appledrop there was torrential rain heading that way in the afternoon.
Another terrible morning here very heavy rain and cold.

    Horrendous conditions in East Cork

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,361 ✭✭✭appledrop

Well it's not the sunny south east today! Horrible windy wet day here, glad to be heading home before the next storm hits here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,744 ✭✭✭.Donegal.

No snow last night, frosty morning tiny amount of snow remains from Friday night. Seems to be an alright covering still from about 150m especially above 200m

Made a flight at Dublin Airport at the last minute on Friday.

Saturday in London like a summers day. Beautiful.

Some contrast today in UK. Rain started at midday. Return flight in to Dublin shortly might be fun.

    5⁰ London

Meanwhile everyone I know in NE Galway (and further I imagine) have no power ;(

I'm amused that the air pressure now is same as Eowyn's lowest (~967 hPa) but there's just a breeze rather than howling gales.

All about gradient and how tight isobars are (how distant higher pressure is).

We have had some amount of rain in Cork over the last 4 days, so much surface water and flooded fields.

Is it ever going to stop raining?

God love anyone heading into another day with no electricity/ water etc due to Storm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 954 ✭✭✭alentejo

Seems like it is always raining. Miss that bland cloudy weather that loads of people were giving out about not so long ago!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

and God forbid it might be “mild”! We couldn’t be having that.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,311 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

Lots of waterlogging now in Meath, first time I've seen the place properly waterlogged since the deluge year of 2023. We need a dry spell fast. As for this winter I'm done with it, just want to move onto warmer and sunnier weather at this stage. Unfortunately we may only get a few dry days around the weekend, first half of February is looking unsettled and Atlantic dominated but at least it's going to be mild…..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,300 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Any weather predictions for the bank holiday weekend anyone ?

Looks as if might be milder and a bit brighter from any forecasts I have seen so far up to Sunday .

Or is there another wet and windy front going to hit Monday ?

A fleeting sunrise this morning at Clontarf to take us into a better few days ahead before the damp looks to return aside from some rain Thursday night.

    Good sunshine now.

Beautiful, just like a ring of fire. Did you get to do your storm chart yet re Eowyn or has more data to come in. The storm thread is chaos and I can't seem to find anything, thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,361 ✭✭✭appledrop

Thank god finally some blue sky and lovely sunshine today.

My commute was horrendous yesterday in the torrential rain, so dangerous with surface water on motorway and idiots still speeding🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,139 ✭✭✭compsys

It really hasn't been the worst of months - in Dublin at least.

Sunshine levels, which I think people value most, are running close to normal.

And there were a few really nice dry, sunny and mild days mid month too.

Nov and Dec were very poor though imo. Although mild enough, there were so dull it was almost unbearable.
