Anybody applying for this, or done so in the past?

Closing date 7th November. Panel to run to 30 Nov 2025.

From a quick look at the booklet it seems to be based on the competency model. The application form asks for your STAR-type examples up front.

I did the CO Irish stream and there was no online testing, just application & interview. Wondering if the same will be the case here.

I'm currently in the middle of my application. Go n-éirí an t-ádh leat! 😊

I had a look at the application over the weekend, it's very detailed! The AO application just asked for your personal details, none of the essay type answers.

Anyone have any idea what kind of places one would end up working with this? Is it mostly going to be in the Dept of the Gaeltacht/Udarás na Gaeltachta?

I don't think it will be limited to specifically Irish departments, but at a guess, it's possible that the jobs will tend to be concentrated in certain areas for the moment. The CS has an objective that by 2030, 20% of new recruits will be proficient in Irish and I can't see how they could all be packed into just the Dept. of Gaeltacht. For example there have been vacancies in e.g. the Oireachtas and in PAS itself.

This application is kicking my ass with how much there is to write but just one question left to go. Kind of mad they want us to demonstrate an entire competency on the strength of a single example, but at least it's good prep.

I expect you could end up working pretty much anywhere because as mentioned above, the CS is trying to ensure that there will be staff with Irish in various departments by 2030. The CS also has to be able to provide service in Irish to those who want to avail of it. A guy in my office got EO in June and he came off an Irish panel, but he does the majority of his work through English.
Did ye see the deadline has been extended to 28th November?

Yep exactly, the candidate booklet specifically says that you may not necessarily be doing all of your work through Irish.

Deadline extended to 28th - this also happened in the recent CO with Irish competition. Possibly not getting a huge amount of applications 🙈 I submitted mine anyway as it's done, you can make changes if you want up to the new closing date.

Interesting that they extended the competition. I can't afford the salary hit to take an EO job so didn't apply (and it would probably be salary hit and move to Dublin). Thanks for the info, great that they're trying to get more Irish speakers.

Anyone know what the application form refers to in question 9 of Eo Irish application where it says 'if you chose other above give more information'???

No idea, I assumed it was just an error
