Hi, first post on this forum.

I was wondering if there are age categories in road races? Started running after a big gap, doing Parkruns atm. Coming from a cycle racing / running / squash background. Have run two HM’s in my youth and probably dozens of 10k’s etc etc.
I’m the far side of 60. About to join a local athletics club and was wondering about auld lads competition.

    Cheers.

There is, usually most club races will have masters categories every 5 or 10 years after 40 up until over 70 at the least, sometimes even higher in bigger races. The same system is in place for championship races on the roads, cross-country and track

Most (not all) club races stick to general M/F O35 and O50 categories only - understandable as there would be a lot of prize expense otherwise for small category numbers. There are exceptions in some of the bigger races. All county, province and national races have the 5-year age category medals, however, so if you are competitive in your category you’ll soon get to know your rivals. 😁
