Aren’t red bull due a big upgrade package this week? That will be interesting to see if they can catch up to McLaren

I have a feeling there is going to be the big American spectacle again for this Race.

Wait, we are still doing sprints? Forgot they existed.

Will be able to watch all of Saturday and part of tonight but Sunday I’ll have to double screen it so may not be paying full attention.

The colour scheme on the Alpine is awful and annoyingly similar to the McLarens. I'm liking the ultra boost UHD on NowTv too, nice and crisp. 🙂

Jayzus some spin from Hamilton there!

Sounds like they were possibly doing something dodgy, got caught but couldn't be proved they used the device and that'll be it.

Side note: love evening races our time. This and next week are perfect.

Albon feeling the pressure. Wow Piastri out!

Perez out in Q2, same with Lawson - 2 tenths behind Yuki.

    Get in Max!!

Bit of a nonsense witch hunt by the sounds of it. Red Bull's ride height adjustment system is much easier to activate than that of most other teams, something that is a perfectly valid goal because it's legal to adjust ride height during sessions. This led to some people, mainly Zak Brown, kicking up a fuss and suggesting this means a mechanic could more easily sneak in an adjustment to the ride height during Parc Ferme, which would be illegal.

FIA investigated, the cars are always monitored by camera and/or marshalls in parc ferme and there's not a shred of evidence that Red Bull have ever actually done this. Red Bull have agreed to change the system to make it harder to adjust ride height in future to put the whole thing to bed, though the media will no doubt try to get some more mileage out of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭Longing

Yep! Sky were frothing at the mouth earlier. Unbearable to watch. The way they were talking, you think Red Bull were running full on active suspension, and the biggest dose in the pit lane blabbing crap saying it's unprecedented to see FIA officials in garage checking. What a load of nonsense. 90% of that sky crew should be left at the side of the road and they wouldn't be missed. Add nothing, only there own hysteria and deep down favouritism of their own driver and team. Button we should look at all the CT cameras from races gone by to see was ride height changed. Like WTF.

Pity they didn't but as much effort into McLaren second DRS.

This and Russell being only .012 behind maxs bodes well for Merc for Qualifying this evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,374 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Watched sq last night. Seemed a scrappy enough affair. Not really clear who's actually on top. I guess the sprint later will tell a lot.

Not a good look for Albon to be beaten in a session by Colapinto, 2nd qualifying that's happened in (and Albon was only beaten by Sargent once ever I believe).

And equally bad look for Perez, especially with all the attention with Lawson being there. And Yuki finishing ahead of him too.

Still think sprints are dumb though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,282 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

It does look like Albon isn't as good with decent teammate against him. In 2021 he was in DTM with Alpha Tauri and finished 6th, Lawson as a rookie finished 2nd in that championship

    Zak Brown is some dose

"We adjusted our wing but it's not a problem"

"Red Bull have to modify their car so it's a problem"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,583 ✭✭✭Dave0301

McLaren looked off it for Sprint qualifying. Early in the weekend so plenty of time to fix it, but they need to be near perfect if Norris is going to catch Max.

I expect Mercedes and Ferrari to be in the mix for pole as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,374 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

You could make the same argument about red bull though. They have the tool on the car but didn't use it... As I saw on twitter, it beings the Benneton b194 to mind...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭Longing

But Red Bull showed in front of the world how it works. That's the difference. But all teams are pushing the regs to the limit and over that was in the case of McLaren's with their second DRS. They were using it outside the DRS zones and the whole world could see it. To this day I don't understand why their cars were not banned, it was first highlighted as far back has Austria. Now with the clampdown on flexie wings, suddenly McLaren is no longer 2 tenths ahead but are 2 tenths behind they were the fourth best team yesterday.

Two-faced Zak is a joke. Every time I hear him he is calling for investigations and transparency into something even Horners private life. But when it comes to illegal DRS transparency is not important to the clown. Sorry for the rant dulpit, Zak boils my blood.

Quick question about now tv - can you start a sports event from the start if you join late? And how soon do events appear on catch up after the fact?

Say if I couldn't get online in time for start of sprint race, could i just rewind back to start? Or do I have to wait for catch up service?

Last time I checked (maybe a year ago) catch up took ages and I couldn't join live events from start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭Longing

If you get joining before its over you can rewind. I don't believe there is an option to start from the start. Which is a shame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,698 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I watched the sprint qualifying this morning so up to date for today.
Turned on earlier to see Liam Lawson talking to daneca Patrick and said I’ll wait until the race.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Fairly new to Now Tv I am but it’s still the same I think. No option to watch from the start other than rewinding if the event is still on as Longing mentions (Discovery + is great for watching from the start or live, shame they don’t do F1). Seems to take days before it’s available to watch again.

Hopefully Max gets a clean start and stays out of any Russell trouble.

Six Sprint wins in a row for Max.

LeClerc takes 4th after nearly losing the car when closing right behind Norris.

Not a great sprint for the Mercs - they will have anticipated more.

Charles calling it moving under braking, don't think it was - but it certainly made Charles' car move under braking.

Remarkable after all the talk about how McLaren were on top and Norris was in the title race how normal it was for Max to just drive into the distance with an easy win.

Norris doesn't have it (yet) to be a title competitor i feel. That lock up at end was indicative of this.

Side note: Haas now 6th, great result for them.

Didn’t see any of the practice sessions or qualy last night but going only on the sprint itself it looks like tyre deg is greater on the McLaren than it is the Ferrari and prob the Red Bull too, they fell off a cliff at around lap 12/13, whereas up until now they had prob the best tyre deg on the grid. Maybe the loss of that DRS0.2 is having a bigger impact than just straight line speed? This is the first race where they otherwise would have used that wing isn’t it?

On the Zak chat. I really liked him when he first came in, was a breath of fresh air and a likeable chap. But now that McLaren are challenging he’s shown himself to be a sore loser and an even worse winner!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

It seemed a bit late from Lando but great reaction from Charles to avoid a collision tbf.
Fastest lap on the last lap from Max and he seems happy in the car again, please god let this continue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,374 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Lando had been under investigation for last lap erratic driving, but all cleared.

So, qualifying is at 11pm, not 22:00. And tomorrow's race is at 8pm, not 18:30?

Be great if they'd just get on with qualifying instead of all this filler rubbish
