Do you reckon Iggy Pop will do Glastonbury or is the Bearded Theory appearance an exclusive.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

His only listed dates after Kilmainham are both in central/eastern Europe (12th June, Austria/Czech Republic 16th-19th July). Might be a bit of a logistically weird trip to fly back to the UK if there's more dates around the EU to be added.

Iggy must be well into his 70s by now is he still any good live?

Too big for the legends slot yeah. One of those acts that would be big for a certain audience, but not really for a Glastonbury audience. Not really the same crossover appeal or cool factor as other nostalgia headliners like McCartney, Elton, Bowie, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen etc, so just wouldn't see him getting booked to headline, and would just be playing his own headline gigs in Hyde Park etc….

77 and still no budget for shirts. Reliably great given reports from pals and press in the last few years. Never seen him solo but caught The Stooges at EP 2007 and what a blast that was.

Agree that he doesn’t have the crossover appeal of Elton John, Macca or Springsteen but I think he’s perfect for the legends slot. Is he really that much bigger than Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Shania Twain, Lionel Ritchie, Kylie, Paul Simon and others who’ve done it in the past ten Glastos? I don’t believe so but maybe he can flog more standalone tickets than them so commands more cash. Happy to stand corrected.

Actually yes, and i say that as someone who has seen him solo and with The Stooges multiple times since the early 90s. His set at ATN a few years ago, which i had low expectations for, was surprisingly good.

Recent tour date additions would appear to rule Robbie Williams out of Glastonbury.

It certainly will be interesting to see who will be headlining. I mean, of course you-know-who is going to come in and say that the 1975 are going to headline each night because Coldplay and Elton John had uninspirig crowds. (Although Glastonbury might have gone "too woke" by then of course…).

But, ignoring the troll attempts, it will be interesting to see who is going to headline.

I hope the Glasto virgins do get a decent Pyramid headline act or two but, sounding like a broken record, even if it is a poor headliner, the rest of the stages are often where it's at.

I don't think it will be Taylor Swift. Still on her own tour. Although she MAY play in 2027 after fallow. Will they get Pearl Jam at last? (If so then all my charitable "Good on you folks" will be gone and I will hate you all if I don't get resale/other 😁 ). Assuming they are still together/re-form after their national service, I would imagine that BTS would be second from top on Pyramid one of the days. Maybe headline in 2027.

I mean, they wouldn't be MY taste, but it's about who would fill a stage and they are/were MASSIVE and would be again when they re-form. I'm pretty sure there will be a K or J-Pop band way up there.

Timing-wise I don't think it'll be Oasis next year. Although they could play to basically out-do Elton John and Coldplay (New drone footage REALLY looks great these days)

I mean, I wonder will they try for Madonna again or just go "screw you" after last year? Hard to know. I believe they were trying for Fleetwood Mac for YEARS until they (Emily) said screw 'em.

The last couple of Legends have been underwhelming either due to technical issues or the voices simply not being there anymore. (IMHO of course). Everybody remembers how great Lional Richie was but anyone talking about Diana Ross?

    Hell, maybe they'll have AC/DC!!!! 😀

Olivia Rodrigo is pretty much a certainty.

Billy Joel or Sting possible for the Legends slot but more likely Cher.

Sam Fender & The 1975 will turn up but unlikely that both will headline, possibly the former subbing to the latter.

Eminem or Stevie Wonder rumoured, no firm reason why but I'd be happy with either, the latter more likely.

Those my four guesses, feel free to have a go in March/April when they're all wrong. 😁

I think if either Sam or 1975 play they will headline. Sam subbed last time and can't see him in a repeat slot with his popularity.

Gaga has to be in the running now that she's back to music, has a new album coming out this year apparently, and is playing Coachella.

she likes money too much to play glasto for next to nothing.

You're probably right, but I'm terrified of a young trio of Rodrigo, Fender & The 1975. Can't see Glasto ever doing that, they'd get slated for the blandness, almost always have a mix of new and old. Fender's month streams (5m) are also way behind any of the headliners and Legends slot acts over the past three years. For comparison The 1975 have 15m, Stevie Wonder 20m, Olivia Rodrigo 49m and Cher 13m. He doesn't have the popularity of those acts though his fanbase may be almost entirely in the UK which would allow him to top the bill. Clutching at straws here, please help………..

She's played. Very few acts haven't. She'll undoubtedly play again but unlikely in 2025.

Cher… That's an intresting thought alright. She, like many others though, would be in that category of "Too-big-for-legend-and-too-small-for-headliner" maybe?

Gaga. Possibly (Saw her in afternoon of my first Glasto I think. Pokerface had JUST gone huge). Maybe not until 2027 though if not Taylor Swift. Needs another hit album to tour?

As you say, they are not gonna go with three relatively bland "new" acts like Rodrigo, Fender, 1975. I mean, they usually have one rock act…. or Coldplay. Now, I'm not saying Coldplay or someone like the Foo Fighters is bland (these days) but I'm just saying that they won't skew as young/MOR as Rodrigo, Fender, 1975 all in one year.

And I'm not "down with the kids" but is Fender still as big these days? Second-to-last on Pyramid or Other Stage, I can imagine. But headlining? I may be TOTALLY out of the loop. But I can't see people killing themselves for Fender tickets at Wembley or 5 nights at Croker.

Anyway, will be interesting. Ticket-holders, enjoy. Don't start looking at weather predictions until AT LEAST Feb :D

The only bland act of those 3 is Sam Fender, though he isn’t small here or England and will be announcing the first of his stadium dates tomorrow. Certainly the plainest live show out of them 3.

Sam Fender is a rock act and Rodrigo’s last album was basically just a pop rock album.

Tis all subjective. Apart from Dead Boys I find all of Fender’s stuff pretty banal. Never said he was small, just not in the league of Rodrigo & The 1975. Though as I said above his fan basis are almost all local so he could be as big as the aforementioned duo in the UK. Seems like a decent lad (as with Ed Sheeran) and was very nice to everyone when in Ballina for Other Voices 6/7 years ago so best of luck to him.

The 1975 I endured once at a mainland European festival. Won’t again.

Rodrigo has a couple of decent tunes (I like that Elvis Costello rip-off one) but it’s unlikely I’ll not have something preferable to see that evening. Curiosity value though, might be entertaining.

Rod Stewart for legends set. Yeah, makes sense. Good act

Yuck. Fairly widely acknowledged as the worst headliner in the hist of the fest.

Nobody matches Sheeran, but honorary mentions for the Oasis debacle in 2004, Shakespear's Sister and Lenny Kravitz. Doubtless others I've forgotten.

Stewart is also working with Ronnie wood & Kenney Jones and a Faces reunion is expected. If that's part of his set I'll be there.

Left Oasis 1/3 of the way through - awful. Have luckily avoided most of the bad ones like Sheeran and all but 1 Coldplay.

Kanye the worst I can recall of the ~30 headliners ive seen on that stage.

Suzanne Vega wasn't that inspiring but I've been lucky enough to avoid a really bad one. Rod's chance to redeem himself in June, and I think he will.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,624 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Its a lot of covers - 70% of the show - so i reckon he could go over like gangbusters to the crusty genpop / Sunday headers.

Avoided Diana - WH was so good that afternoon mate was rooted to the spot. Dolly mimed some of hers but was fun. She is an engaging character to be fair.

Rod a dirty aul rogue. If its sunny he'll do the biz.

But Rod Stewart can no longer sing. Can't see that going down well.

I gave Diana a try for a while but got bored and left for the Fontaines. Didn't get to WH at all that day and still regret skipping Angelique Kidjo.

Up to that point I'd never seen that field soo busy as for Dolly (Macca still the only artist I've seen get bigger numbers but I've missed looads of recent headliners) and she knew exactly how to play the crowd.
