Hi all, I'm looking at an Audi A7 2012 to purchase. Year is 2012, in mint condition and 80k miles on the clock. Is anyone here that has one or had one? Are they reliable, any particular faults. I'm assuming they are a reliable and safe car but like to know 1st hand..

    Thanks in advance

They will be mechanically identical to the much higher selling A6 3 litre diesel and share nearly all parts with the A6 2 litre which would have been a much higher seller again so you could check reliability surveys for them, sold from 2011 to 2017

I had the 2 litre A6 2014 model from 2018 to 2022 and it was bulletproof at the time

2012 A7 would concern me a bit, even if the purchase price seems low be sure you have budgeted a decent amount to maintain and repair it, nothing against the car itself, just its age.

80k miles in 12 years is under 7k a year, suspiciously low in fact, and not exactly what 250bhp diesels were designed for there may be DPF problems etc………

Reliability of a 12 year old car depends on the individual car and how it was cared for by it's former owners. Also 80k miles is very low mileage for a 12 year old car, it would want to have a documented service history to back that up.

Thanks for the replies, i forgot to mention it's an automatic. Ive read a number of reviews but nothing from Honest John and Parkers i must take a look. Comments ive read from people who owned them is its a solid car and once serviced when they need to you shouldnt go too wrong.

    14,950.

Read the reviews on Parkers and Honest John, all seem very positive which is good.

I say go for it and best of luck with it. They’re great looking cars.

A friend of mine has an A7, super looking car, no problems at all, personally I think at that money it's not worth it but there are very few alternatives so maybe it's not bad money I guess

They are nice cars but tgjbk the A8 Which basically saloon version has more prestige / looks more substantial

IIs It dealer or private sale ?

A7 is based on the A6 rather than the A8.

Obviously this is the car OP? Just to inform you this garage was previously trading under a different name and reopened under this new name over night about a year ago. So eyes wide open regarding the mileage and history etc.

Lovely Car surely the mileage could be verified from NCT certs could copies be requested if not available……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,673 ✭✭✭User1998

No don’t think thats possible. You would be relying on service history or history check if no NCT’s available

    Is it multitronic or stronic?

I'd recommend to avoid the multitronic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I think most of them back then were multitronic outside of the most powerful versions which are rare. That one the op is looking at isn't quattro so I'd say for sure it's got the multitronic gearbox. I think the multitronic got more reliable in later years before it was replaced in the facelift, compared with the previous generation cars.

Personally myself if I were going for one of these it would have to be quattro though.
