I can see the attraction in a bigger duster.

Looks alright. Bit different from the concept I seen in the past(must have been a long time ago as I forget when I seen it).

Good for family's which I don't have. It's always just me in my car so a big fúck off thing like that is not something I need. Sure even the Duster is far too big a yoke for me.

That's a fine looking SUV for the money, the hybrid at £35k is a savage deal. I suppose it'll be 50k'ish when it lands here.

It’s not going to be 50 ish! It’s 30k in Europe for the 155 hybrid. Yes there will be some Irish tax added but 50?!

I’ve had a look around it and in the right colour (indigo) it looks well.

The link in the OP says it'll be 35k sterling, where did you see it for 30k euro?

Available with 7 seats outside Europe afaik. Would compete with established 7 seaters such as the Kodiaq if they made that an option here. I read that there were concerns that Jogger sales could be hurt and that’s why they only are available with 5 seats.
Think Dacia missed a trick as the Kodiaq has gone from approx. €33k to €57k (paint and delivery included) since 2018. It no longer occupies the bargain 7 seater suv slot which is vacant at the moment. Bigster 7 seater would have that market to itself, especially if price was below €40k.

    Garbage made in Romania.

This morning I counted 10 new Defenders driving past me.

Just recently bought a new Duster myself and if the Bigster is anyway similar I won't mind purchasing one. Spec and performance wise it's ideal for me with heated seats, sat nav, air conditioning etc which were unheard of up until recently on Dacia's. Along with the lower price, I think it's a grand car.

Only change I'd make would be with the name. I think they could have come up with something better.

    Yes I agree there.

Even the Duster XL or + might have been better.

I know a few people with the latest models of Dacia's. Sandeo, Sandero Stepway and Duster the person with the Duster is on their second. And everyone of them is very happy with them. They are reliable and look decent as well. I'd even agree on the looking decent bit as well.

They'd make a great hunting vehicle, especially the hybrid.

Hybrid would be awful to drive with it's horrible CVT box but if that's your thing……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭MarkN

I think standard trim maybe €33,000 but I’m just going from seat of the pants. I just don’t see 50k!

It's good enough for Lexus, Audi, Honda, Toyota and Nissan so I'll trust their experience and expertise instead of a newcomer to Boards if that's alright with you.

Did you actually see the 155 Hybrid priced at 30k euro like you said yesterday?

I tried looking but can't see it anywhere at that price.

It's 35k sterling in the link in the opening post.

After watching your look around of it Mark and I must say it is very impressive alright. I just they had differentiated the front a bit more and made it a bit wider but them it's based on the Duster so I guess not.

Out of curiosity width wise. Which is Wider a Hyundai Tucson a Kia Sportage or the Dacia Bigster? The Sportage has always been a much wider car than the Duster to me anyway.

One of my neighbours has a 2012 mk 3 Sportsge and it's much wider than there next door neighbours 2018 Duster. The Sportage might be older but it's still the better car and better looking too I think anyway. Been in both and Sportage is a nicer place to be too.

That goes to show the extent of the off-roading knowledge of the average Irish crossover consumer.

Its disappointing. The original concept was far nicer and beefier. This looks more like a body builder using ozempic version of Duster. I have a duster and was hoping to see what way the bigster would be as id have moved onto it. Maybe it looks better in the flesh.

I drove Toyata Hybrid before, good enough for the car manufacturers doesn't mean good enough for me, good enough for me means reliable and good to drive, which CVT @"mostly" are not ( except Toyota hybrid ) because they're different, they use the motor for the lower speeds, CVT in general are not reliable. It was a disaster for Nissan, Renault and Audi's multitronic had a lot of issues.

By the way I'm not a newcomer to boards….. I've been around since 2007………LOL.

The car manufacturers didn't make CVT for the drivers benefit they made CVT because it was cheaper.

rumour is that they removed additional 2 seats due to the potential impact on ncap safety rating…. not the impact on jogger sales.

I'm driving a Lexus hybrid the last few years and couldn't be happier, barely drive the vintage Mercedes or v tec Honda anymore.

I do quite like this new Dacia, would make a great hunting vehicle as well as everything else it's got going for it, miles ahead of a Defender. Having said that I wouldn't be spending close to 50k on any car.

Yeah, it works fine if that's what you're into, an appliance like experience and the infotainment is the most exciting thing in the car !

I wouldn't speak anything near 50 K on a car either, we agree on something and I think 15-20 K will be my limit going forward, even less.
cars are just a waste of money, I'm currently new to Motorcycling and currently on a 500 CC Yamaha Tmax Maxi scooter, faster than most average cars and yes, it's CVT which I don't like but it's my first bike, I go everywhere on this now when I don't need to take the boys places. Far more fun than most modern cars.

Currently on the lookout for a motorbike with gears, can't wait. It's just such a different experience.

It's not bad I suppose. Boot is huge but the boot in the Duster is very large. Would the Duster not be sufficient for those in the market for a 5 seat family car? Also the Jogger is more practical than both.

It will be interesting to see how both the Bigster and new Duster fare. Will they have the right badge for the school run? or wiil people spend 10-20k+ more on something German while PCPed up to their eyes and moaning about the cost of living.

In general, I find the SUVification of the car market to be appalling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Mad_Lad

They'd probably still have to go on the PCP for the Jogger ! But yeah, the temptation to get something a lot more expensive than you head tells you is very strong, I did it myself for too long. I finally got sense, when you see the sheer amount of money that goes to the government on the cost of a new car and eventually it hits, why on Earth would I want to pay the Government so much tax on a car that is supposed to be just for getting from A to B.

Yes, the right badge for the School run is important, cars are still very much status symbols for a huge amount of people and now that everyone seems to have SUV few want to be seen in a hatchback because that means the car didn't cost as much, but over half of all cars are bought on PCP now and probably at least another 40% or more bought with HP or credit union loans so I would say the vast majority of new cars in Ireland today are bought on credit as the good 2nd hand car costing 15 K is tossed aside, reasons being, oh I'd rather something new and reliable with a warranty as if they're not paying for that warranty on the cost of the car lol. The real reason is that they want what everyone else has and it's that desire to do what everyone else does and can't bear to be seen to be different.

One thing for sure is the level of debt people will get into for a car here is insane and the cost of cars are so high now people don't see it on the PCP but the reality comes home soon enough once the balloon payment has to be paid once they realise 3 or 4 PCP contracts down the road the money they wasted.

But yes, I don't like this big SUV craze the so many criticised the USA for and what's worse is that on narrow country roads it's getting harder to pass people and they drive so fast pushing everyone off the road.

sorry been away for a few days, yeah they said €25,000 for ICE and €30,000 for 155 (in Europe) at the launch I was at last week. I know we’re Europe too but you know yourself, there’ll be some Irish additions but I still think it should be mid 30s easily.

If it's going to be mid 30's in Ireland it'll be the best value new SUV on the market by a country mile and drive down the prices of used versions of every hybrid SUV and every other SUV.

    We live in hope.
