Getting a place in Dublin primary schools

My family are moving to Dublin in the spring. We have two daughters, the older of which is in first year ECCE, she's three. We don't know where to start looking for a home in Dublin. Blackrock / Dun Laoghaire are our preferred areas but we are open to other areas, preferably along the coast or close to it. My question is, are there black spots in Dublin when it comes to gaining access to pre-school and primary school that we should avoid? I've already been told by a few that Blackrock is a nightmare for getting a place in schools. Is this true? Are there areas that people could recommend in terms of a reasonable possibility of gaining a place in pre & primary schools? We would love them to attend an Educate Together, but I'm guessing that's wishful thinking.
