    Hi ,
Could someone please advise , I am currently renting a house through HAP. I was wondering if it possible for me to move my couch into the kitchen and my bed into the sitting room? My partner and I ended up having to downsize from a four-bedroom house to a three-bedroom one two years ago because our landlord was selling. We currently have five girls and one boy. My partner has been sleeping on the couch for the past two years, and I share a bed upstairs with my younger children. He is experiencing severe physical and mental health issues, and I cannot continue sleeping with the kids because they too require their own place. Is it possible for me to utilise the living room as our bedroom? Thank you in advance for any advise

Yes you can put the furniture anywhere that you want in the house.

please seek help for the mental health issues, as they tend to escalate over time, leading to even more complex issues, currently struggling myself, so may need to return to therapy, best of luck

Really ? I’m so worried that the landlord or council will call and see the bed in the sitting room and I’ll get in trouble , with the housing situation so bad in Ireland I don’t want to draw attention to myself, thank you so much for taking the time to answer , I really do appreciate it .

Awh god I’m so sorry to hear you are struggling, life is tough in Ireland at the minute but I really do hope you feel better soon , thank you so much for taking the time to reply. My partner is struggling at the moment but hopefully everything will work out , he is on medication to help his depression so thank you for your kind advise.

its unfortunately a part of my disorders, ive been here before, it ll pass, but thank you, i truly wish your family the very best, we are absolutely failing families such as yours time and time again, its making me extremely angry as i age, please consider some form of counselling for yourself, as trying to run a house under such conditions can be truly overwhelming

Id imagine the council/landlords are aware of the amount of people in the house? If that's the case then I'd say you should be fine. Can't see anyone being evicted for moving beds.

As long as the place is clean and tidy and presentable, then I can't see an issue.

Wishing you the best. Mind yourself.

anyone would struggle in your situation, so feel no shame, you cant truly help others if you re struggling yourself

Hi Airy Fairy , yes both landlord and council know that there’s 8 of us in a 3 bed house , thank you so much for your reply , hopefully it’ll be fine , I’m just a very bad worrier and always think the worst 🙈 .
    Wishing you all the best

I think the bigger issue despite the obvious over crowding in the house is lack of long term rental security for tenants.
