Not entirely relevant to renewable energies but hoping someone can help

Bought this battery for €80 to replace a golf buggy battery that died

When I look at the "user manual" it gives the following recomendations for charging

    It also says this :

My old golf buggy battery charger has a slighly higher charge voltage :

Is it ok to use the old charger or do I have to go out and buy a LiFePo4 battery charger that charges @ 14.6V like this one on amazon

    thanks

    Hi, you're right to ask.

In terms of charging a LiFePO4 off a Li-Ion battery charger, it can be done, but it's not recommended as the voltages and charging cut-off points are different for both cell types. Li-Ion charges to 4.20v per cell, while LiFePO4 charges to 3.65v per cell. Plus, that battery doesn't appear to have a BMS built-in to manage the charging (others in the range from this manufacturer do).

If you're curious about the differences between lead-acid, LFP (LifePO4) and Li-ion, then this page shows some of them:

A lead-acid charger will be ok as a temporary measure, except you need to ensure that the battery is not left charging (float charge) as that's damaging to the cells. Best off ordering a proper LiFePO4 charger then in the meantime.

Lifpo4 batteries have a fairly unique charge profile and are generally charged with pulse cycles until they get to bulk charging. This helps extend the life of the battery. They also reach high voltages very early in their charge cycle which will confuse a lead acid charger which has a steady ramp up.

Lifpo4 chargers are easy to get hold of, I got mine for my bike battery off DoneDeal for about €30.00

They are unvented and dry, so can be mounted sideways unless it's stated in the instruction.
