Rear subframe T27 Avensis replacement - 2010

Hey all,

My mechanic told me I probably need to look at replacing the rear subframe on my 2010 Avensis saloon. Pic attached.

The car is a 1.8 Valvematic and is mechanically sound. Only 87k on the clock and would hope it has many years left in it. With the price of second hand cars now I wouldn't like to change it.

My question is - is this part the same between petrol models and diesels (saloon) and is it the same in facelift models (2012 to 2015) or (2015 to 2018) if I wanted to try to get a newer part from a breakers.

Also, anyone that knows these engines is it worth investing on and should the car have many years left in it if I sort out these rust issues? Any other advice/opinions appreciated.

This age of Avensis is brutal for rust in the rear subframe.

Very hard to find a good one, breaker yards seem to have a waiting list for any decent one that comes in.

Ring around a few breakers yards, they'll know if petrol/diesel are interchangeable too.

Rest of the cat will go on for years.

To me, the rust looks fairly superficial. I may well be wrong of course - hard to tell from just one picture.

Did you or your mechanic try to penetrate it anywhere with a screwdriver?

I had a feeling it might be difficult to get one. Seen some online on ebay and a site called b-parts (dont know if reputable)

Listed as rear axle but looks the right part. That one looks immaculate but again only going on a pic and dont know if definitelty compatible. Also, its pricey.

Well he said it was in bad order and would probably need replacing. He said 5 years ago was probably the time to treat it etc to prevent further rot. He picked up on this as part of a service and mentioned it just. He said I could put it for the test and see what happens - it may or may not get through but longer term I probably want to tackle it. With the prices of second hand cars now I would like to keep this car for a good few more years as the mileage is low and no mechanical problems and I am only clocking 5k to 10k a year.

Edit - to add I think he said the newer Avensis should fit too. I think from looking that is the first facelift to 2015. The 15 to 18 looks different.

Check with your mechanic that it's definitely the correct part.

A few more listed here from same site - one of them looks at least as rusty as yours and is asking over €400!
