Volvo XC60

I was looking at buying a diesel Volvo XC60 from around 2018-2020.

From what I can see D5 diesel engine was sold from 2017-2019 and B5 diesel engine which is a mild hybrid, was sold from 2019 onwards. I think road tax is the same for both models. In the specs the BHP seems to be the same for both models and the B5 only has a very small improvement in MPG.

Are there any other advantages of the B5 over the D5?

Do you need the diesel? I had a 2022 T8, a mighty car, I thought I heard something in the budget about reduced vrt for plug in hybrids, might be worth a look.

Also have a xc90 with the D5 engine since 2017, there's about 250k on it now with no engine issues, we do keep up the volvo servicing on it as it gets us free breakdown assistance, it's cheap to service though. Power wise it's got plenty of power for hauling 7 adults or towing.

Full history would nearly be essential and keep a look out for crash damage, I've seen a lot of damaged repairable ones pop up on donedeal.

I think the T8 would be out of my budget. I thought the diesel might be most suitable for towing.

The t6 and t8 can tow no problem, oodles of power in them rated for 2 tonnes if I remember correctly. Think the xc90 is about 220bhp, the xc60 t8 was 455bhp. Haven't checked UK prices but if they're about to get reduced vrt might effect prices here.

What are you towing, the xc90 is some load lugger, it's like having a trailer inside the car, Hence it's still with us, might be worth looking at, it's more comfortable and useful.

The heaviest trailer I would be towing would be a livestock trailer which could be nearly 2.5 tonnes when full. I think the D5 and B5 are rated for 2400kg and T6 and T8 vary depending on year from 2100 to 2400kg.
