Super news for a wet Monday! From the Examiner:

The first act for Live At The Marquee 2025 in Cork has been announced, with American guitarist Joe Bonamassa to lead two tribute gigs to the late Rory Gallagher.

Details of the concerts were announced at a launch event on Monday at the Oliver Plunkett bar in Cork city, where Bonamassa was on-hand to play a few of Gallagher’s classic tunes. Marquee promoter Peter Aiken announced the gigs in the presence of Donal Gallagher – Rory’s brother and manager through his career – and other members of the Gallagher family.

Taking place on July 1 and 2 next year, the gigs will come just a few weeks after the 30th anniversary of the death of the beloved Cork guitarist,

Tickets on sale on Friday October 4th.

Black Country Communion are supposed to be playing around Europe next Summer, hope they come to Ireland if that's the case.

Might see about going to this in the next few months.

I just booked a couple of tickets... Forgot to book this morning, but nowhere near a sell out at this stage...

Hotels in cork are feckin expensive!

A 3rd night coming on sale tomorrow I think.

I was just able to purchase 2x tickets for July 1st, despite them being sold out before.

Just an FYI for anyone who could only attend on the 1st, like myself :D

I think they have added extra seats.

I also notice, cheapest ticket appears to have reduced to € 55 + fees, for July 1st and 2nd, but € 70 for July 3rd(the 3rd gig to be announced).

I'm fairly sure they were all €70 initially.

I picked up a ticket for 70, I don't mind as your man Bonamasa is a serious operator. Would be deadly to see how he performs these the Irish tour tunes. I'd say there will be some energy.

Can I ask if anyone purchased the "collector tickets" from ticketmaster? I did and they told me today that they are not available and changed my tickets to digital 😡

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,288 ✭✭✭Wompa1

Yes I purchased collector tickets, mine arrived by post yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭Comerman

They changed mine to a digital today after I contacted them last Wednesday and said today they cannot give me a collectors ticket and offered a refund if I wished 🙄

Mine arrived on Tuesday from the Netherlands, didn't look good so close to the gig.

Bought 3 collector tickets options, nothing in the post yet. Might see if can get a refund.

Support changed my tickets to digital and They offered me a refund but still refusing to explain why I didn't get them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,288 ✭✭✭Wompa1

Nothing special about them. Take your refunds of the difference and go digital.

Got a late invite from a friend with a spare ticket, what a fantastic guitar blues fest, Joe alternated between 4 different fenders, keyboard guy was also outstanding, packed out the door

That was truly incredible, long time fan of Joe and have seen him several times but last night was very special in a sweltering Marquee.

chancing my arm but is anyone travelling back to dublin after the gig tonight and would accept a passenger. Happy to pay my way.

Was due to travel back with a friend but he's pulled out and I've spent 7 hours on public transport to get to cork today.

    thanks

Some guitar player is Joe. As others have said, you're not getting a like for like for Rory, but it was still class. Great night of it. More bands need an organ going haha

“Lachy Doley” is the keyboard player, from Australia, sample here from Marquee:

Went last night, all I can say is I wasn't expecting it to be that good. Blow away tbh. He played a lot of tunes that weren't on the Irish tour album which was a nice surprise.

Best moment was a big shout from someone in the crowd "Gowan Joe" during a slow solo. He let rip then. Amazing guitarist. Such an amazing tribute to Rory

Was surprised he strayed from Irish Tour but didn't play Shadow Play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭NiceFella

Yeah I think Shadow play is more on the Rockier side of Rory's tracks. Think bonamassa might have wanted to keep it as blusesey as possible.

Was a cool idea, wasn't able to make it down, would probably have preferred a Black Country Communion gig if I had to choose.
