Worcester boiler repressurise

    Hey all,

Just starting to use the heating again with the weather getting cold now and noticed 2 radiators are cold. Looking at the boiler the pressure light is at 0, I bleed the radiators and there air only in one but only a tiny bit.

Having a google it looks like it should be easy to repressurise the boiler bit mine isn't matching.

Should be one 3 options. A key then manually turn a little valve, a blue lever or external on the pipework that needs a blank plate removed, screw hose on then open a value until pressure is about 1.5.

But none of these look to match my boiler. Any ideas?

Boiler is a Greenstar 24i ErP

This video seems the most likely approach since I don't have the key setup or blue level but these fixings are nowhere to be found.

Hi ya, the refill valve is external to the boiler. Have a look at this thread for images...

Thanks for the info. I also suspect it's external like in that thread you linked but for the life of me I can find it.

I checked the hotpress/immersion. Only valves there are the expected ones for each water flow, they are all open. But can't see anything like the expected valves for boiler pressure

Photos of the area around the boiler and hotpress might help us.

Yep, I don't see it there in those photos. 😕

It's head wrecking, 2 cold rads and no hot water. This valve has to be somewhere 🤔

I had some pics up on a FB group and being told its a header tank system and not pressurised so the pressure isn't the cause of the no hot water or 2 cold radiators.

Mad confused now tbh, will try get someone out to look at it later in the year.

Some eagle eye seen this pic and said it looks like a non return valve which shouldn't be there and should actually be the filling loop.

That pipe is also labelled heating supply.

Ah yes, they are correct. It's a low-pressure sealed system. Mine was the same as that until I swapped it to a pressurised system last year. I swapped mine as that one-way valve seized and the system pressure was at the floor and it wasn't possible to tell from the gauge.

So yes, leave it alone unless you start seeing other issues such as air in the system, etc.

Well I still have the issue of 2 radiators not working and no hot water.

I was kinda hoping it was just an airlock and bleeding would sort it but unfortunately not.

When you bled them, did the flow out of the rads seem ok, or was it just a trickle? Might be that the non-return is seized. To try free it up tap the valve a few times with the handle of a screwdriver, good sharp taps.

It was a constant flow but very little, Ya know, I just tried to turn that handle and it was pretty stuck. A bit of patience and it freed up eventually but no difference with the heat. I suspect the handle is spinning but the valve inside might not be.

Handle on the one-way valve? - there isn't a handle. Are you talking about the wheel-valve further up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,247 ✭✭✭goodlad

Yeah, the wheel valve on the same pipe the one way valve is on.

Quick update for anyone who might have similar issues and this helps them.

Confirmed the system was a closed low pressure system with a non return valve installed that should not of been there.

System now changed over to a pressurised system linked to the mains with an external filling loop installed where that non return was. Boiler pressure now in the green, a few tricky air locks worked out and all radiators are now heating up aswell as the water tank.
