Price drops

As we head into Q4 and end of the year, when, if at all, do you see price drops on 2/3 year old cars?

I'd imagine dealers would rather take a small hit in Q4 than a bigger hit of having a car that is a year older. Would you have to wait until deep into December?

Stating the obvious realiy .but every deal is different . If a dealer prices a popular car well it will say . You don't know how long a dealer has a car in stock and some dealers buy in cats to sell . I have seen main dealers having sakes lately and I think the days of them getting away with steep used prices like during covid and after are gone

Seen lots of sales advertised, but no obvious reductions I'm guessing you might get a deal if you go in. Problem is most of the cars I want to look at are half the country away and I haven't got the time to spend a day driving there and back to look at a car.

Would depend on how long the dealer has the car in stock and how much it owes them. Some dealers are happy to sit on stock for a while at high prices while others price them to move them on quickly. Generally they may want to move existing stock before the end of the year to make way for trade ins in the new year but dealers are not in the business of giving anything away. Just remember if your trading in an existing car then it's value is also depreciating so it can be swings and roundabouts when it comes to buy now or wait to see if prices of the newer car drop. So there really isn't a hard or fast rule.

The car I'm looking at is 2 years old and has been in stock at least 3 months. No price change at all. Rang them up to make an offer but wasn't moving a cent.

They are a mains dealer with high amount of inventory so I'm just hoping they will look to have a clear out towards the years end.

2 months is not that long. I bought a Passat a few years back that had been sitting there for 12 months, it was a petrol when there world was diesel mad. Got close to 10K off list. Those days are over I suspect as dealers are loath to hold inventory.

I was looking at a Volvo V40 diesel and I'm fairly sure it's up since April.

Price was fair for whatever reason they were shifting it. Dropped it by €1000 last weekend and it's sold.

7 months could be too long for some dealers and only a wet wkend for others.

    Long time for any dealer

Chances are you'll get a deal on a straight sale but on a trade in you'll be at least cancelled out on value of your own as we approach year end.

They have interest charges on stock cars and obviously the reg matters but they still have to make an average margin per car to keep them in business so depends on how well priced it is in the first place.

    That's the car I mentioned,

I posted about it in the general chat thread but nobody replied. I was tempted tbh.

I'm trading in an 8 year old car that is not very desirable to be fair but the offered trade in value is considerable less than the cheapest equivalent car on done deal. I doubt it will lose much value in the next 3 ish months.

I think I'll get back in contact in November if the car is still there and see if they are more open to offers.
