Water softener - bypass valve

    Hi

Is it standard to have a bypass valve on a domestic Clack water softener system? I was under impression you needed one if your softener broke, etc so you could switch back to hardened water.

I'm in process of collecting water softener quotes and one lad has said he never fitted one on a domestic system.

    Really appreciate input folks, thanks
