Can anyone positively ID this raptor please? It's definitely not a buzzard, kite, or kestrel. It was being mobbed by hundreds of house martins and finches and then soared very very high were it proceeded to dive bomb two buzzards.

    It's a Peregrine!

    Thanks OpenYourEyes.

I wonder how sure you are? I ask because I asked a few birders on Twitter and they didn't seem to sure what it was. One suggested a (large) Kestrel but it absolutely was not a Kestrel.

Here's the original phone video in HD, now on Youtube…

In the second video, taken 1 minute after the first video, with my Coolpix P1000 (which I can't focus!!) the bird had gone way way up in the sky, to the point that you could hardly see it with the naked eye. To my surprise, it encountered some buzzards up there which it started to harass as seen in the video.

I live quite close to a quarry that did have Peregrine nesting in it a few years ago (according to an Environmental Impact report) so it's possible they've returned I hope!

Apologies for the very late reply, but I'm 100% sure! Both the video, and your description, all match perfectly for Peregrine.

Thanks @OpenYourEyes, I think I've seen it again once since then but it was gone before I had a chance to get the camera out.
