Housing Crisis

    Hey everyone,

I've been struggling to find a decent room in shared housing here in Dublin, and I thought it might be helpful to hear from others about their experiences and frustrations. I recently went through a long, exhausting search for a room, which really opened my eyes to some serious pain points with the whole process.

Here’s a bit about my journey: I applied to 93 listings in 3 weeks, which led to 12 in-person viewings. Of those 12, 6 asked me to wait until they made their decision, 5 required further information and only 1 was offered to me immediately.

Someone once said that finding a room in Dublin is harder than finding a job. Sounds like a joke but its a harsh reality for some. After meeting many landlords (and some not even being the actual owners), I realized how much time and effort I had wasted, often just to be rejected. It made me think: What if there was a better way to do this?

I’m trying to gather insights into what other landlords and rental-seekers are facing. What are your biggest frustrations when looking for rooms? For tenants, whether it's dealing with platforms like Daft.ie or trying to find some roommates you'll get along with. For landlords, how to make a sensible choice when you're getting hundreds of applications within the first hour, and what you look for in a good housemate. Let's get a conversation going. The more we share, the better we can understand what really needs fixing. Looking forward to hearing from you all!
